Finally snagged some wheel studs form Motorsports Hardware, since I will now be swapping wheels at the track as opposed to towing there on the wheels that I will be running. I have not had a chance to install them but I hope to do so before this weekend's event.
Unfortunately I have accomplished nearly nothing on the car over the summer. I was hoping to get the shifter assembly swapped out this summer but other projects and obligations have really hampered my progress. I also spent a considerable amount of time working on cars for friends and family, which has cut into time for the e30.
I did manage to get some things done on my truck and on the WRX, but at the expense of the e30.
Oh well...maybe someday I will get these parts installed.

Patrick, if you had to guesstimate, what does your car weigh?

Figure 2850 base, minus the following:
Carpet, deadening (interior and trunk), headliner, sunroof, rear seat, door panels, swap driver's seat for fixed-back race seat, A/C delete, single exhaust conversion, and misc. other small parts removed.
I know that the interior carpet and deadening and the trunk deadening alone were over 100 lb. (we weighed it all). The rear seat saves about 15 lb. with the driver's seat swap being about the same, and the A/C setup was another 40-50. The aftermarket (cobbled together) exhaust was about 50 lb. lighter than the OEM stuff with a single pipe, aftermarket muffler, and deleted cat section.
You have to add back in about 150-200 for the cage, but it is still probably 200 lb. down from the stock curb weight.

ok, good to know.
Now, if you were to gut the doors and cut the inner panel out, pull out all the glass except the windshield, skin the trunk and hood, basically strip it of absolutely everything unnecessary, where do you think it would end up?

Having totally stripped an e30 before, I can estimate that door glass and guts MIGHT be another 50 lb., as long as the main door support is still in the car. The trunk and hood supports/ribs are probably at least 1/2 of their gross weight, but I don't know the weight of either component off-hand (somewhere I saw a list when I was gutting this car and I was looking to see what was worth the time of removing).
If I were to pull all of the heat/defrost components, there is another 50 lb. there, easily. A lighter radiator, no spare tire (we run it for traction), lightweight battery, swap out the passenger seat (20 lb. there alone, or remove it to save 45 lb.), no power lock/window motors/actuators/wiring (probably another 30 lb. there), we could be down another 150-200 lb., total.
Hell, just removing the spare is another 35-40 lb. but we keep it for traction.

A big weight issue for rallycross is the fact that rallycross tires weigh a freaking TON even in the little sizes. I'd have to guess each tire is 20+lbs if I was guessing, and that's in a 185/14!Stage rally/rallycross e30 build/competition journal

So 2400-2450 seems reasonable with a rollcage and no driver... thats still about 200 lbs more than a comparably stripped/caged e30... I wonder in the M30 will make up for the extra weight in speed ;)
Thanks for the info.
