Sign up for the July 30th practice day. I'm definitely in for that one, on the fence for the 9th. Also considering just doing the sunday july 10th half day event.

Also I seem to remember a post/text where you promised you'd have more freedom/free time after you got married meant to call you out on that at the time :D

I signed up for the autocross on the 30th. Lets see what happens. Hopefully I get in, this street driving is fun, but I want to be dumb and you cant really be dumb on the street

Drove it today for the first time in 2 weeks and it was nice, but a few issues have popped. All minor stuff. Valvecover gasket is a must so I talked to a friend who has a connection and will get it for me this weekend. He's going to let me change it at his shop even though its a Benz only shop Normally I go to JMP for work on my car, but if I cant change my own valvecover gasket I might as well get rid of all my tools.

Also the CEL came on when I was "merging" on the freeway:devil: Might have something to do with the speedo that has decided to stop working. Stomped it and got the 1234 light again which is the VSS. So that confirms its the speedo.... right?... I was already planning on sending it back to Gregs///M. Im going to have him check it out again since he "rebuilt" it once already, gears have been changed too so theres no reason for me to be having cluster issues. Im also going to have him paint my needles, but not the VDO orange that everyone does. I have something else in mind that is more appropriate with this build. I also have a small idea Ive been eager to try, so we will see how all that works out.

No pics today, its too damn dirty to bother, so I will probably snap one this weekend when I do the VCG.

Also, I have some other stuff planned, but I wont get too far ahead of myself. I tend to do that, so I will wait until it actually happens before I reveal anything.

Fun weekend! I got confirmation that I am registered for the autox on the 30th. Got my friends GoPro and I will be ready. I might have JMP install my rear pads, e-brake cables and do a brake flush beforehand just so Im fully ready. I will be too busy between now and the 30 to do it myself.

I did however redo the valvecover gasket (along with all the little donut gaskets for the bolts) at a friends shop in Redondo Beach. Got it done pretty quick and only snapped two pics, so thats all you get.

In cluster related news, it seems to work intermittently, so Im definitely sending it back to Gregs///M early this week, so that I can get it back quickly. Im going to have him double check all his work because I shouldnt be having issues. Im also going to have him polish the lense because its very foggy. While I had the cluster out, I painted the needles and also added a little sticker but I will reveal all of that cluster stuff after its back.

Thanks Sam, glad you're getting an E30 again, I knew that E46 was going to get boring quick...

So I have good news and bad news.

Bad news first: my cluster is still not back from Greg & BavRest. Not exactly sure what's going on but I'll wait patiently at this point.

Good news: thru the awesome members here, I've been able to source a few different clusters that I can borrow so that I won't miss the autocross this weekend.

              Very excited for this weekend!

Still working on getting the stuff off my buddies go-pro, but overall I had a great time. I was a few seconds off the times that Charlie (sh3park!ng) was putting down, but I was fighting understeer anytime the corner got tight. I blame the Kumho tires as they were something I bought when I was trying to get my car back on the road asap. I really should buy another pair of the Dunlops because they are awesome.

I did snap this picture in the morning before the fun started, and I'm hoping to find a pic that someone what took that day... We'll see

No more dented hood! Now I can finally polish my car and stare at it in awe... pics coming someday. My instrument cluster is back but its at the post office.... pics coming another day...

I DO have a picture from today though. Wife drove my daily and I took the E30 to work for the first time and I was enjoying the 105 -> 405 interchange a little too much and sling shot myself right into a speeding ticket.

First speeding ticket in a long time. Couldve been a lot worse though

I cant wait to see the car actually polished up, though I suspect the defects will shine more to me, but thats life...

I was finally able to access the stuff on the go-pro. The videos are cool, but nothing super exciting. I still uploaded one, unedited because it features a crazy driver and if you watch the whole "intro" you will see why. If you could careless, skip to about 3 minutes into it and you will see ~60 seconds of me and the track.

I also found this pic I took with the go-pro. Did you know it take pictures too! :coolphoto:

Thanks, it's hard to tell how much people actually like my car but luckily the thread continues and the miles will continue to add up because everytime I'm behind the wheel, it's hard to want to be in anything else. I dragged against a V10 R8 and regardless of the outcome the sheer fact that I was next to him for more than he wanted was enough to keep new smiling for a long while...

Today was a fairly productive day in the hopes that tomorrow will be a successful day.

Finally broke down and bought the magnaflow CA legal cats for the obd1 24v BMW motor. Got my paperwork in hand and another appt in the morning with the ref. This should be the one that does it, no good reason why it shouldn't.

Best pic I could get with my phone camera, might also give in and buy an iPhone but that's not important ridge now...

I also have wanted to give my rocker panels a fresh coat of trim black paint since I bought the SEM paint and finally did that today

And last but not least, I want to give major props to Gregs///M and BavRest because when the swap was first done I had him rebuild my cluster. It worked perfect but recently the Speedo wasn't working perfect so after talking to them, they told me to just send it back. While it was there I asked him to polish the lense and I also added something that I thought was special, but he promptly one-upped me and I am beyond grateful. Cluster works great and I finally installed a ground strap on the hood that's been missing since I bought the car. Nearly 4 years of annoying whine is gone, at least it seemed to be solved in the 2 minutes that I moved the car back.

Tomorrow I'll know several things, and I'm hoping for a lot of good news

Well, still didnt pass but the new cat made a HUGE difference. NOx are not an issue anymore, now its just figuring out the HC issue. Im starting to wonder if replacing the coils will help because it seems like its not burning the mixture enough, or theres still just too much fuel.

Im also wondering if the thermostat might not be the right one (though I think we stuck with the original OEM temp) and its not letting the car get truly hot enough.

Still not a victory, but we are making good solid progress, which is more than what I can say about the previous times I went to the ref.
