Wife caught me playing in the jungle gym tonight to get the rear windows in. I have to drive the E30 to work tomorrow since the daily decided to randomly not start today. Something about the ignition on these new cars... seriously such BS. It's not a DIY either so I have to get ready to bend over and take it in the rear

        Thanks!

I will always have a special place in my heart for mk1 vws, but this is essentially everything I want in a fun, canyon / track car. Its still easy enough to drive to work, which I had to do today. It might get too loud when I finally do the exhaust, but damn it should sound good with that Supersprint muffler I have been sitting on.

I also got to test out the rep Alpina dead pedal and its nice having that additional piece there to rest my foot on. I seriously love driving this car and once the few obvious issues are taken care of it should be even more wild when its all said and done.

Fun weekend, took the car up to Big Bear. It was a fun looking road and with the Benz still down I was excited to take the E30. Bad news was that snow was on the forecast. I beat it up the mountain (7500ft) but with some traffic it was anti climatic.

It was nice being in the snow again but I was a little nervous how the E30 would do heading Back down the mountain.

Had to take a pic of the Alpine E30 at Alpine Meadows covered in fresh powder

On the way down earlier today I simply cleared the snow from the windows to bring some powder down to show it to Los Angeles. I also picked up the Alpine door, you know the one I bought with the fenders years ago! haha Finally solved one problem and created a few new ones.

In other news I ordered the Schroth harness and a smoked shield for my helmet so 2017 will be some fun fun racing

Youre going to want to go ahead and clear coat these. My rebuilds rusted within 6 months after installing them. Looked like butt even though everything else was brand new.

              Edit: Love the cage btw

Thanks, on the way to the main road I executed a perfect drift at 10 mph perfectly over correcting it and straightening out. Wasn't planned lol

As I mentioned already, the calipers are on the east coast with a new owner but I'll pass the info on.

As far as the cage/ roll bar goes I'm overall pretty happy with it though I need to clean up that rear exposed area and paint the lower boxes as they are still bare metal. I'll be taking the seat out one more time when it comes time to install the harness because I need to drill some holes for the lower belt loops and I'll probably address it all then

Calipers and exhaust manifolds do the same thing when painted unless you REALLY get in there with the paint. We will put a coat on them, brush it in, then a top coat. The Cast iron is so pourous, the rust will come back, and even worse if they are media blasted prior.

Totally didn't catch that in the comment below the post. If you need some POR 15 for the boxes & what not I have some left over if you wanna dab some on prior to paint.

Happy (early) New Year everyone. I finally had a few minutes this morning to swap out he spark plugs. I'll let the pics do the talking but I have a good feeling this will help me pass the sniffer. Regardless I'm glad I did it.

What do you guys think? Notice anything funny about the old plugs?

^ At first i thought the center electrode was worn away, but that appears to be normal for the 4 prong plugs. What am i missing?

I thought the center electrode was worn away as well... guess I shouldn't get as excited about the next test lol

Those are normal. The Bosch platinums electrode is recessed.

Those NGK's aren't going to help you with emissions. Walk into a BMW dealership and buy the correct spark plugs for that motor. You can find the P/N on Realoem.

*Fun fact* If you buy a set of plugs from the dealer with the correct part number and then buy those same plugs with the exact same part number from somewhere online. You will have 2 different spark plugs!!

That's right, 2 different looking and functioning Bosch Platinum plugs that both have the exact same # printed on them...

The dealers and OEM's always get the highest quality parts out of the production runs before the aftermarket and online retailers do. Which is why they charge a premium.
