My new odometer gears from Garagistic came in the mail:

So I got to work, removed the instrument cluster:

Took it apart:

Removed the speedometer assembly:

Those are the gears that are getting replaced:

Gear cover off:

Old soft gears removed (brass bushing hasn't been removed yet in this picture):

New gears installed (the original bottom green one is ok to reuse apparently because a new one isn't included in the kit):

Gear cover back on:

And all back together! Glad to have a working odometer:

Small update. Nothing has really changed with the car yet, I'm just gathering everything I need while I have the money. I bought all new suspension bushings, control arms and swaybar linkages. Can't wait to install everything and feel the difference! I decided against polyurethane in favor of stock rubber.

Help
You sold me on the keyless entry... easy to install? May buy one! Pictures of how you installed it? where to, near the battery I assume in the trunk.
I also replaced my whole front suspension and also replaced my VDO gears, yet the ODO does not work? Is it because I lacked to put the yellow stopper over the shaft to keep the gears in line? Or is is my circuit board? Si board I think they call it.
Your thoughts?

Op, I like your style. Congrats on the 318. They are wicked cool cars as you now know. I saw one drive past me on the freeway just yesterday morning and I almost exited to turn around and follow him! I'm not sure why but i got this sudden rush, like I had to track him down and buy it. Maybe because it had an IS lip still intact...
Whoa, off topic. Any way- keep up the good work. I wanna see more pics!-Nick

The keyless entry was a pretty easy install, I did it in the cabin and wired it in near where my feet are, which I think is the common place to do it. There are tutorials on how to do it under the keyless entry thread here on r3v.You sold me on the keyless entry... easy to install? May buy one! As for your odometer, did it work for a bit and then suddenly stop working? I know installing the yellow stoppers is crucial because the gears will eventually slide up the shaft and not engage anymore. Those are pretty essential. If it never worked from the start, then I would say it has to do with something else.
Thanks, I'm really liking it so far. Awesome car, but like I keep saying, I just can't wait to tighten everything up. It still feels really sloppy, but I'm slowly gathering all the parts to end that. But I know what you mean, pretty much every e30 that drives past me, I stare and try to figure out what model it is and see what's done to it haha I should probably keep my eyes on the road!Op, I like your style. Got 205/45/16's mounted on the Style 5's today and I'm really happy with how they look. Can't wait to see them on the car. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, I totally spaced on bringing my camera with me today. The wheels are really dirty in the pics too.

Great work man, I like your attention to detail. Building E30's like this is so fun. Just having all the suspension tightened up, nice shifter, working cluster, etc make these such nice driving cars. Then adding different suspension and cool wheels finishes them offComment

Thanks man, that's the plan. I'm not going to go over the top, just address the few small things, tighten everything up, paint, suspension and wheels then call it quits and just drive it every day and enjoy it. I can't let myself forget about the '02 :)Great work man, I like your attention to detail. Building E30's like this is so fun.
