So I got bored this weekend.........

      Test fit some wheels........

Then decided to pull out the motor....and goodies.....

      As follows.....my thought processes.....

      "Wow......that looks really nice......"

"Well......I suppose I could bolt the turbo on while I'm at it........."

"Hot damn thats cool.....where's my intake?"

"Whelp.....no point in running a twin scroll turbo without a twin scroll manifold....."

Then I got into the zone and can't quite recollect my thought process, but I feel it was pretty spot on.

Then.......I got hungry so I stopped. Took me a few hours, learned a lot, know how I'd do it differently next time. You can tell its Chinese SS.....doesn't really weld worth a crap, I looked it over and fixed a few spots because it looks like they use a high amp pulse welder to put it together. There was a lot of cracking where the thin gauge metal can into contact with the thinker flange materials.

I'll weld the flange on this week, need to order some 1.5" pipe for the gates placement.

      That's all for now.......

Are you using kamotors turbo kit? Or making your own?

I have talked a lot with Kamotors and he's been great with helping me out with a few things, but I'm building my own. This is going to be a twin scroll setup, his kits are single. I bought the manifold because it was cheap, I'm going to use it as a mock up for a jig to make a different manifold. I'll probably still use it while I build a new one. These manifolds aren't bad, if you have the equipment to massage them a bit they work just fine. Quality, I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. Welding is decent, cleanup of the ports are meeh, and the material probably isn't the highest quality SS you can find ether. I'm going to beef it up though, it'll handle all I throw at it.

I see the only reason I asked is cause that almost an identical turbo. Your gonna run a twin turbo setup??? What are your power goals?

                  Not twin turbo, twin scroll.

the Compressor side of this turbo is identical to his, the Exhaust side is different. Twin scroll separates the exhaust pulses, it has two turbines if you will, one smaller then the other theoretically allowing a bigger turbo to spool faster.

                  We'll see.......

I think it'll turn out well. Will it be as efficient as an actual twin scroll, probably not but we'll see how it goes.

So I got the manifold to the point where I needed to weld the new twin scroll flange back on. I thought I'd test fit it the the hot side of the turbo to see how all my ports lined up......wow....

Not so well. So I scored the opening

And went to town with the die grinder.

much better...(I actually worked on it even more, just didn't take any other pictures.)

My other issue was that the bolt holes from the flange to turbo didn't line up worth a crap. a good 1/8" off. I wanted the ports to stay in their place so I needed to move some holes. I was first going to move them on the flange, but I would have been left with very little meat left on two of the four holes. So I plugged the turbo.

I made a small stop first, this way I can butt the turbo up to the point and the ports will line up perfectly.

All welded up.......now I have a problem.....that filler metal is tough! I roached several bits trying to start a pilot hole.....I think I'll go invest in a diamond tip bit to get it done. This week i'll go get some materials to plumb the wastegate, plan is to set the motor next week and make the downpipe, weld hte o2 bung in and get everything off to the powder coater for ceramic goodness.

                          Awaken the beast

I figured I owed people a status update on the build. At the end of March I was told I would be losing my shop, but that it would be late summer. By mid April I was told I had to the end of May. Needless to say I haven't been able to work on it until now. I packed everything up, moved most of it twice before I decided to just bring stuff home.

                          Things will start moving again.......Enjoy.
