Iirc Pete McHenry had a g245 behind a built 3 liter m50 and it lasted for awhile but not for very long of awhileLeave a comment:

No worries, my transmission is fine, so it's a want right meow.Leave a comment:

I dunno guys. We'll see, I guess. I wonder if getting an aluminum M52TU block bored out to S52 specs is practical-ish. Lightness is something I'd like to pursue with this car if I go the S52 route.
Sorry Farbin, I'm pretty easy on transmissions, I think I'll give it a go. Hope the selector shaft isn't too fucked.

Cut down and prepared a replacement. It's getting TIG'd in tomorrow:

I also prepared and cut patches for the rear federalization marker holes, antenna hole, and rear window rail rust hole.
While it's getting inserted I'll need to pull the dash back out to do work on the front window rust. I just put it in, oh well.Leave a comment:

It's a 245 (E21 4 cyl) based trans so it is noticeably weaker than a 260. That being said, one in good condition behind a S52 would probably last fairly long if it wasn't driven by an asshat.
Alpina used the 245 gearbox bolted to a M30 in their E21 B6 and they did ok.Leave a comment:

You'll get bored with the s52 in like a week.
Turbo it. The headaches are fun too, you just won't admit it to yourself.Leave a comment:

My 323i could use it more, and I bet it wouldn't die before winter. I'd cry if you s52 melted a dogleg.Leave a comment:

but that's so sensible and practical :(
I wonder if the small-case m20 dogleg I got with the car would put up with s52 power...Leave a comment:

S52, not turbo, not dogleg. Keep it OBDII, and save the diag headaches on a DD.Leave a comment:
