block surface and piston tops are free of carbon buildup and ready for the new gasket.
There was another thread on the subject of pinging. I always had detonation under load at freeway speeds and Im starting to believe carbon build up was the reason. Each piston had nearly a 16th of a inch of buildup. Enough to completely fill the valve cuts and then some. Also the bottom of the head/ valves and remainder of the combustion chamber had tons of it.
I bet it raised the compression enough to cause issues.
Head is out getting the works. Probably going to need guides now. $$$

The timing chain guides are fcked so theres another 60 bucks added to the project. Total so far is
$550 completely revamp head including ported intake and exhaust side. (just in case boost)
$60 timing guides
$150 ARP head studs (just in case boost)
$90 HG kit and gaskets
