Nice!! Sub'd. I also just began my M50NV swap. I like the simplicity of this set up. Keep posting the good work.

This is awesome! I've actually been researching m50s + G240s earlier and stumbled across your thread. This is exactly what I'll more than likely be doing to my m42 as well. Your m42 bay is amazing and thanks for the sunrise red info! I need it bad. lol

Nothing particular to update other than painting and cleaning parts is going well. Pretty happy with how these have turned out.
Pulled the tensioner pulley apart as I didn't want to buy another and it was seized. A few minutes in a vice and some penetrating lube and it moves freely again. Pulled the bearing shields off the pulley and cleaned and relubed those, spins smooth. Cleaned and painted.
Engine arms also hammer finished and thermostat housing wrinkle finished.
Working on stripping the valve cover but paint stripper isn't liking this strangely cold Ohio weather. It snowed this morning . Not cool Ohio.
Going back up to the shop this weekend and painting the block and hopefully getting it mostly back together. By next weekend I'd like the engine done so I can start pulling and prepping the car.

So if the case was that the headgasket was shot, its just a day project to throw another m50 in. I say rolling the dice isnt a terrible idea as long as you have a daily which I think you do haha? It could end up being fine.

After it sat for awhile working on it some of it had made it's way to the pan but I change it regularly and haven't seen a bit of it since. Being this is a $250 motor, I may roll the dice and just keep an eye on it. Worst case, I buy another M50 and at that point will be a pretty basic swap. Still going to do a leak down test and make sure it's atleast somewhat healthy.

We were going to do a leak down test this week.Originally posted by Nick_S View PostI just spoke with my buddy who's shop I'm at. He seems to think that if the head gasket were bad, all of the oil would have been discolored, not just the stuff at the very bottom. Said he thinks it's just a sediment of metal solids normally in the oil but had settled to the bottom. I did also notice the pan had been damaged and looked to have been rewelded somewhat recently.

Was going to say when the e36's I buy need a new motor that's where I go. I've negotiated to 250$ with them too. If I were you I'd go have a look personally because sometimes they have no clue what they're talking about. There might be a NV one laying there.
