A few updates...

Got a RyanG splitter, ordered up some POR-15 for the rust spots, and began the sanding process. Passenger side has paint, pinstripes, paint, pinstripes...all layered. Driver's side was just 1 paint/stripe layer. I found some minor rust to resolve and am working on that. I am sanding from back to front and will be addressing any dings that I can as I encounter them.

I did find this up front:







Not great. I need to pull the fender to get a better look at is before I do much more.

The rear rust at the taillights was minor:









I have also done some painting. Semi-gloss black for all the trim that will stat black, and I blacked out one of the 2 sets of kidneys that I have. They were disassembled and the rings were painted gloss black on semigloss kidneys. Not sure which I like better.





I painted a lot more trim but forgot to get pictures.

yeah that rear valance is really short on DB cars.. cover it up with a rear apron, cut it out and replace with lower section of late model, or do chrome euro bumpers and live with it like they did outside the US :-)

So that rear plastic bumper is unmodified? I had heard you could bolt them on early model verts but never knew for sure. definitely a no go for DB coupes..

As far as I can tell it is unmodified. It does NOT have the sliders installed which is why the gap looks like crap. I read somewhere that I can notch the sliders and shocks and move them up slightly so that they hold the bumper in the proper orientation but I have not yet done that. I also know that the stock early rear apron looks goofy with the bumper but since I will be running the aftermarket rear valance below that pretty much all of the goofy part will be covered up.

More updates:

So all of my euro bumper trim arrived from getbmwparts.com and it all looks awesome:



I also started stripping the convertible. I made some slow progress but I am getting there.









(Major) Still to do tasks:
Align late model front valance, strip/scuff it, remove it.
Sand/scuff the bumpers on the car.
Align bumpers (including installing the currently-missing brackets/sliders).
Remove the bumpers.
Align the fender(s).
Scuff the whole car.
Paint the inside of the trunk lid and the hood.
Minor ding repair & sanding.

Also, since my wife is out of town I took this opportunity to run some of the small trim parts through the dishwasher (along with my kids' dishes, of course). This gets them ready for a fresh coat of satin black paint.

That car looks great, stance aside. Painting them really makes the car look a lot more modern. I vote yes.

A couple new parts arrived.

At the recommendation of Luke, I purchased some Dayton tweeters and midbass speakers from PartsExpress. Both were on sale, plus they had a Memorial Day sale going. With the new GAS "remote" crossover for the e30, these should sound pretty good up front.



I also picked up some fog lights for the late model valance. One was cracked but for $30 shipped it was a good deal to have the brackets and housings. I can source a replacement or replacement lens down the road.
