Yeah, I'm defiantly glad I went the extra step to replace them, added about $700 to the total but now I can sleep at night. It has 154K. I have no idea of the service history on the car but everything seemed clean in the engine, no sludge or worn cam/bearings journals. The clincher for me was it being a Texas car absolutely no rust at all, not even on the exhaust. I live in the rust belt so the underside of this car is a beautiful thing :')Leave a comment:

Well I haven't touched the ix all winter, this thing has been getting all of my attention getting it ready for the nice weather. :) Its a 2000 E39 M5! I picked it up back in November knowing it needed timing chain guides and figured it would make for a nice distraction from the ix this winter, and it has haha. It now has all new timing chains, guides and tensioners, WPC treated rod bearings, seals and gaskets, motor and trans mounts, sway bar bushings, left ring and center tie rods, belts and pulleys, Z3 shifter. I started it for the first time since pulling it off the trailer last night and it runs and sounds awesome :D I'm very excited to put some miles on it this summer. Here are some pictures, cheers!

My brake setup is pretty cheap, but pretty heavy too :P I will probably replace the calipers with aluminum ones and maybe also two piece rotors...
Uh, i see you have som welding to do! :DLeave a comment:

Thanks! I ran into a small snag during final welding but hopefully I can post that write up sometime soon(ish)
No idea how much stronger it will be, but there's only one way to find out haha.Leave a comment:

Ah, for some reason I thought the ix and rwd brakes were different (at least the caliper mount position anyway), good to know! Ethier way, with the 135i hubs up front I would need a custom hat for the massive adapters to work.
12.2" rotors would probably be more that sufficient for road and light track use, like Nisse has done. Even the cheapest 12.2" Wilwoods are $100, and anything up to 13" is about the same price at $200. Like you say it's not until you get the 11.75" straight vane are they below $50 a rotor. Idk how to compare estimated life of the rotor, besides strictly the difference in mass and surface area. I'll keep searching for a cheaper alternative to the $200 13" Wilwoods, maybe come up with something else.
I spent some time with the romer arm today after I pressed in my bearings and hubs. I'm going to bring in the front wheel tomorrow and scan it also. Planning on mocking everything up in Design X and Autocad. Hopefully minimize the guess work, and prevent me from going to bolt it up and ending up saying "well fuck" haha. I can share the files when I'm done if anyone else wants to play around with it for themselves.

Just looked over the thread. Pretty awesome!!!
I love the idea with the front diff support. How much extra torque do you think it will be able to handle?Leave a comment:

Ix and rwd brakes are the same - so yes, massives kit fits an ix too.Leave a comment:

I prioritize consumable prices over maximum braking for the setup, so I wouldn't bother going over 12.2, and would probably choose the 11.75 in the end, in either 0.81" or 1.25"
I think the front massive kit should interchange between RWD and iX, just on the basis that I ran RWD stuff on my iX before and didn't see any difference.
I really like the massive stuff, but you need to buy the calipers/rotors separately now which adds to shipping costs, and last time I asked, the Installer kits are now up to $8xx per axle, which is significantly more than what the older threads seem to say.
If you have the knowledge/equipment and the time to spare, then why not take a shot at it.Leave a comment:

Im using 310mm (12,2") rotors on my turbo IX and it feels good :) No problem on the track, not yet anyway. But i didnt more like 4-6 laps at a time either so... :PLeave a comment:
