I never realized how much Schwarz does justice to the 2002. It's typically not as a desirable color on e30s, but it looks gangster on the 02. This is probably the first 02 I've ever seen in that color
Thanks guys! Over the past 24 hours, my silly ideas of an s2k swap have diminished. At first, the idea in my head was, "I got a roundie for so inexpensive, I could do anything to it and it wouldn't matter." Now, as I think about it, and talk to others, I've realized this thing is pretty special. If I want a crazy f20c powered BMW, I should use another BMW instead. So, I'll likely get this one running and driveable in it's factory form, and give it the love and affection it deserves, and not be a dumb kid and do something crazy.
I just got this email.
"The BMW 1602 VIN 1530514 was manufactured on June 30th, 1967 and delivered on July 05th, 1967 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City."

Glad to hear Farb. As much as i like to mod the shit out of everything, i would leave that one stock. It really is the right thing to do. That car in reFarbished condition will be an absolute joy to drive. I promise and you can quote me on that.
Your car rolled off the line 2 1/2 months before mine, 1560300 on Sept 13 1967. Mine also went to Hoffman.
Holy Moley Farbin, VERY nice pickup. I'm not sure your realize how rare this car actually is.
These vins were sequential starting with 153* so when you have the vin 1530"514", this car was literally the #514th 1600/2002 made.
You will have some tricky things to work around (rear end is pretty unique, center bearing is NLA, clutch and brake setup is unique). But if you carefully sort a couple things out you'll be it'll be much more driveable while still being reversable (later 2002 rear end w/short neck diff.). The inner fenders look good and don't indicate any front end issues.
Couple of things I'm swooning over, that chrome early dash, the early bolt-on rear view mirror (with it's chrome stalk)... all of us were dissecting your pictures.
