Over a month since the replica valance shipped from Latvia. No updates on shipping.
The OEM piece shipped from Vienna a few days ago. The race is on!!
Car is riding great with the Konis dialed in now. I added another 1/4 turn up front towards full stiffness. Really happy with the setup.
Swapped the old BavAuto springs for a roof rack. The car had one when I bought her...figured I would put one back on since I am restoring her!
I have been dailly-ing the car, since my track car got a little pranged up. She should be back in service Monday.Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

IT'S HERE!!
This is the replica piece that came from Latvia. It is a really nice part! Needs a very small amount of work before I start laying primer, but is better than expected!
Still no update on shipping on the OEM part, but I expect it within a week.
I will take several detailed side-by-side pics when the OEM part arrives.
Looks like I will be in for about $2,800 for the paint work, which was a very nice hook-up price from a friend-of-a-friend.
More soon!

Having said that...OEM, all the way :D
Picked up a few more M52 parts from Levent at Guten Parts. Nothing much, but an oil pan, rod bearings and rod bolts are on their way now. I have a track weekend early next month and a family vacation coming up. From Mid-April on, things will start moving forward quickly!Last edited by kingston; 03-18-2015, 08:19 PM.Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

Tiny update...
My OEM M-Tech 1 front valance has landed in country, and is showing that it has left New Jersey and is 'in transit to its destination. WOOT! When it lands, I intend to take detailed pics of the OEM piece vs the replica part I have purchased.
Received the rod bearings and rod bolts for the M52. Going to be working a lot this weekend on prepping the panels for paint :)Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

So, I said I would take some side-by-side pics of the OEM valance vs the Replica valance when I had them both in hand. Without further ado...
All in all, I am pretty darn impressed with the Replica part. If I hadn't found the OEM piece, I would have been happy to rock the replica part. It has good weight and seems to be pretty flexible. I would need a little work before you would paint it...but nowhere near what I am going to be putting into the OEM part :/
Hope this is helpful!

I am interested in seeing how the mtech 1 side skirts mount to the car. Can you take pics when you install them? I thought they were mounted similar to IS skirts. How to remove, install or convert to pop out windows

Hanne, my Burgundrot M-Tech 1 build - M-Tech 1 parts are all here!
I see he has improved on the flaws of the original run on the front piece spoiler. I've been using mine for a while and it's holding up pretty well for a replica.

Way overdue for an update. But things are moving along, albeit more slowly than I would like.
I have been doing some more paint prep on the car. I am very much learning this as I go. I won't be shooting the paint, but I m doing all of the prep work.
I went out and bought DA sander and set to work on a couple of the panels. The places where the clear coat had failed were fairly easy to hand sand, but I could not get through the places that still had clear. I had shot some primer on the trunk just to keep it from rusting, but it looked like hell:
New power sander made short work of the trunk:
Got her all sanded down to the bare metal and hit her with some self-etching primer. There is a small ding that I will have to fill with primer, since it cannot be gotten to from the inside. It is a very small ding, thankfully! I will sand the trunk back to metal in that spot, sling some mud at it, sand and re-prime. Hit the whole trunk with high build primer, block sand it, hit it with a guide coat, sand again, and see how I am looking. That is a process that I am getting quite used to, and getting better at. Plus, I really enjoy it - very Zen!
I got a new driver's side fender, since someone had pulled a hit & run on me in a parking lot at some point. It was Calypsorot, but I took the clear coat down, scuffed the paint underneath & primed it. Still not totally done, but getting close.
Lots to do still! I adjusted the rear Konis a bit more, as I still felt like they were too soft. Getting them pretty close now!
I also pulled the Italvolanti steering wheel from the car. The leather needs to be re-wrapped, and honestly, I wanted a wheel with a litter thicker a rim. I picked up a 355mm Momo wheel (same diameter as the Italvolanti Formel that came off the car) from Levent at Guten Parts and popped it on the car Sunday night. WHAT a DIFFERENCE! The new wheel feels SO much better on the car! I will rewrap the Italvolanti and hang it on my wall (it was a gift from a good friend, and I will keep it happily).
Theoretically speaking, the car should go in for paint in about 4 weeks...but I have so much prep to do, and the day job schedule is so hectic, it might be early June before she gets fresh Burgundrot paint.
Also got the crank bearings and crank bolts in from Levent as well. Slowly, but surely!
