Nice progress...you are shaming me into doing the body work on my Burgrot and not be lazy. I think I am going to have to take mine down to bare metal.

What products are you using? Spray gun or rattle can for the primer?

Thanks man! I have SO long to go still...but I am maybe approaching the halfway point!

I would almost trade you for your Henna car! Need the Euro bumpers for the M-Tech 1 kit! Sorry...

Hey, thanks man! I am glad you approve. This is all rattle-can stuff for the prep, but the body shop is (IIRC) using a primer-sealer after I have done the other work over my primer.

Sorry compadre, no can do...The wheel was a gift from a good friend. It will be rewrapped and will go on my wall, taking pride of place. :D

Tomorrow I am going to pull the Euro bumpers so I can get prep more of the car. The passenger side fender will come off of the car for me to work on it in my garage, and of course it will be painted separately anyway (as will the hood and trunk).

The goal this weekend is to have all of the clear coat off, the fender primed, to have a small ding on the trunk filled in and to prime and sand it. I have learned how time-consuming this is to do properly and I think this will take most of the weekend. I would like to say that I would get the roof, and A & C pillars prepped, too...but I can't see that happening. I cannot WAIT until this car is all one color again, even if it is only primer. Right now it looks like a clown threw up on it...

            Updates tomorrow, hopefully!!

Well, Half of the weekend's planned work was rained out, but I did get some stuff done...

Started by getting the front of Hanne up on jack stands and pulling the front Euro bumper and passenger side front fender.

I needed to knock all of the clear coat of the panels. Starting...

              ...down to bare metal...

              ...and hit with self-etching primer...

...and then wet-sanded with 600 grit and primed in sandable black primer.

...and mounted back on the car for now.

Then I went to work on the trunk some more. I had forgotten that there was a little dent on the back of it. I would have liked to have just hammered it out, but there is metal work on the inside of the trunk that is in the way, so I sanded the dented part back to bare metal and hit it with a little filler.

Then I re-primed that section with self-etching primer, primer filler, sanded and hit it with sandable black primer. Hit the trunk spoiler insert with sandable black primer as well.

I picked up some carpet dye as well for the rear speaker deck, which is still grungy tan. No bueno! I didn't get a chance to use that yet, but it should make a BIG difference in the look of the car.

This morning I took the M-Tech 1 front valance to a place called Complete Bumper in Kansas City, KS. They are going to plastic weld up the cracks and fix some up the rough spots so it is ready for primer and paint. I mocked it up briefly on the Euro bumper, but I didn't want to hang the valance with a cracked mounting point, so no pics yet.

              More soon!

Coming along! How long did it take you to prep that fender?

That fender wasn't bad. It had a couple of very tiny dings. which were easily worked out. DA sander and 180 grit took the paint down pretty quickly. Cleaned it up, put some prepsall on it, then self etching primer laid down in 3 coats. Waited half an hour and wet-sanded that with 600 grit. Then hit it with a couple of coats of the sandable black primer. Haven't sanded that down yet though. It took me most of an afternoon to do the trunk and fender, and do a little work on the other fender as well. Part of that is that I am still new to this, and I am taking my time...

I just bought a Spitznagel dent removal tool, too. Now I am tempted to sand out the filler that I put on the ding in the trunk and trying to pull it out with the tool.

I am overdue on updates on Hanne, so here goes...

I got the Momo steering wheel from Guten Parts mounted in Hanne. It made a big difference in the feel of the car, and I really like it! It is a litle smaller in diameter than the Italvolanti wheel, but a little bigger than the Momo Mario Andretti signature wheel on my track car. I love that Andretti wheel, but it blocks the speed from about 30mph to about 110!

I need to get a BMW sticker for the horn button.

I got both of the front fenders in primer, waiting for paint:

                    To bare metal

                    In self etching primer

                    In black sandable primer

Then I remounted the fenders, and test-fit the M-Tech 1 front valance...

That's a nice bit of motivation to keep going!

So I shot a little color on the rear valance...

I shot some on the trunk, too, but the clear coat I was sold to go with the PPG paint (in Burgundrot) just would not set up, and I need to redo the trunk now. Poop! I will reshoot it and use a different clear, but I was NOT happy :/

                      More soon!

Hanne, my Burgundrot M-Tech 1 build - M-Tech 1 parts are all here!

Great work so far. The Mtec kit going to make it look sexy. Are you going to bake it or just air dry when you paint the car?
I just put mines on for fitment the other day with wheels. Hope to have the paint work done soon.

                            Time for an update...

Hanne has sat for quite awhile waiting for me to lavish her with some attention. This weekend I had a chance to do so...

I was tired of having an overhead check panel that fibbed about the oil (hazards of have having a 24V swapped car). The vinyl was also coming off the fiberboard, and the check panel didn't seat very well in the sunvisor panel.

I found a part I had been looking for, for some time

I really like the look of this. Simpler, fits my aesthetic of the car.

The next step was to get some more painting done. I had painted the trunk previously, but the clear coat that was sold to me never set up properly. I went back to Colorvision who sold me the paint and clear, and they gave me more paint and a different clear coat to redo it.

Instead of redoing the trunk just yet, I decided to paint the fenders.

I am letting the clear cure for a couple of days, then I will color sand it and buff/polish it out. I cannot wait to remount the fenders!

I had purchased an M52 that was already disassembled, but my buddy Bob needed an M52 quickly to replace the tired one in his car. I let him build mine up, and I now have the old one from his car. We will build that up with all new rings, bearings, gaskets, headwork, etc.

and the reason Bob's motor needed to be replaced...

Only one crack, thankfully. The one I had before had more than that.

                            More soon...ish...

I forgot one other little update...

A while back I had picked up a tan ski pass through seat with headrests, intending to dye it black. I ended up finding a black one in great shape locally.

I need to find a better rear seat bottom, or get this one dyed!

I am still torn on whether to do a bolt-in half cage on this car, or leave the rear headrest seat in. I already have a track car, but I tend to race car all my things!

                              Thoughts?

I was going to do a rear seat delete (just google E30 rear seat delete, they look great) and a custom bolt in half cage. That way, I can still put stuff (like my school bag and such) back there, and your not just looking at a bare bulkhead. Plus with it being a bolt in, everything is reversible.
