Yes, I have never seen a meduim case 4.10 lsd before. It must be that I have never own a late model automatic e30 before.

Does anyone have PN references to these different geared LSD's? Or did they only come with one ratio and people have changed them themselves?

I believed the part number for the lsd unit itself is the same. What's different is the ring and pinion gears. A 4.10 gears will have a different part number than a 3.73 gears.

Thanks. I'll be slowing down starting next week though, as will have to focus on school and work.

Today is the last day for 1/2 off at the local yard, so I went and got the flywheel. I end up taking more than I expected. I wasn't going to take the chance pulling the transmission from the e30 since it was infested with blackwidows. I was going to get the flywheel from a 1990 e34 525i, but some bastard already stripped the nuts on the tranny. So, I end up pulling the transmission off the spider infested 1992 325ic instead.

Now I have two transmission, two starter, one flywheel, one driveshaft, and two transmission motor mount bracket. The getrag 260, starter, driveshaft, tranny mount bracket that I pulled from the 87 eta will eventually be up for sale. I plan on getting new driveshaft, clutch, clutch slave, clutch master cylinder and resurface the 325i flywheel. I already got the clutch pedal assembly so I'm pretty much set for the tranny swap.

Dam last allen bolt decided to strip on me.

After 15 minutes using the vicegrip with no improvement, I pull the hammer and a flat chisel and hammer away. After 3 minutes, the stripped Allen bolt give in. Finally, I can see the flywheel.

                Flywheel and transmission are out.

I didn't expect to get the tranny, so I didn't get a cart to haul my parts to the front. So, I ask a kid (who just came from Germany couple months ago) if I can shared his cart to haul my tranny over to the front. He was a cool kid with a 300D. He was also pulling a manual tranny from an 240d for his manual swap.

Anyways, here is my messy garage. My wife keep telling me I'm becoming a hoarder, so I have decided that I'm going to toss some parts away. Most likely parts that have been laying around for way too long (hint: many layers of dust).

These hanging on the wall are my reinforced subframe and a set of ST sway bar I found at the local yard last year. It'll be going on the e30 once I pulled the motor and tranny out for the swap. I also have two set of roof rack (yakima & thule) that I found at the yard. I might get rid of one, but I haven't decide on which one to keep yet. By the way, both came with key.

At the end of the day, the ups guy drop off my ST brake line I ordered for my m3. I'm still waiting for my wheel spacer from usps, so I can drive the m3 with it's new ST coilovers.

I got the chance to put the e30 on the lift and inspect the bottom. Is the differential a small case or is it just me?

After some reasearch, it looks like it is a medium case. You can tell by the drain plug and the fins. On the medium case, the drain plug is parallel to the fill plug as oppose to the small case, the drain plug is more to the right.
