Honestly, I don't think you're missing anything with the M10... IMHO, the BMW straight sixes are the way to go.

              Looking good!

The engine I'm putting in it for now is an M20B25. I've done a lot of reading on forums about how this swap goes down and a lot of people actually like the M10's. For me it's all about experiencing the car as it was back in 1985, kinda like a flashback, oh and the wanting to feel the difference in engines.

Take the entire front strut assembly from 325i as they're larger to use beefier struts and ventilated disk.

If rear trailing arm and brake assembly from 325i are undamaged, use them instead of drum brakes that came in early 318i

Looks like a great project. Not my first choice in color, but that's why it isn't mine. You'll love/hate the m20/e30 with all your heart and soul. :D

Sorry I haven't posted anything recently, been busy with life. I will try and post more pics later today as well as some pics of the donor car. But so far I'm about $2,000 into this project and I have 2 cars, one that did run and one that didn't. Only thing bad about the one that did run was a smashed rear end. Only thing bad about the other is that the block was cracked. But it has been fun so far.

                              And this is how you make a 1988 325i talk to a 1985 318i
