    project 318i

    ok, here we go:
i have been driving e30s for ten years or so, ad of course started modding them too. but after some time i realized that you cant make a car that is loaded with ice, have loads of power, is incedible fast in corners and a daily driven on bad roads. as my last cars body started to give up after firm suspension, 300kg ice and 230hp engine i decided that the time has come to buy a really good chassis, to swap all parts and sell the old car. and then things got crazy
my old car looked like that:

lately i was giving it technical attention so never had time to deal with cosmetics

now this is my next project: 318i ยด88

    some stripping is done:

to improve weight distribution engine and gearbox will be moved about 25cm back. of course all parts have to be moved backwards too

for first i thought i would use its own floor but that would have been more difficult than making new one

to not get bored i decided to work on other parts too beside body. here you see front suspension components: alu control arms, equipped with m3 3,2 rear bushings turned 90degrees, modified steering rack and othed details

well this is a dogleg sport gearbox used on euro m3 e30 and on m535i

these are shift linkage bushings on needle bearings, they will never wear out and make shifting sloppy

oil pump thoroughly checked and cleaned

    25mm master cylinder

    rebuilt starter

this is cylinder head fron m54 3,0l. it has conical valve springs to have lighter valvetrain

i got m54 without intake, wiring, ecu or anything, i throwed out cams, because in m54 they are infinitely variable ( double vanos), put in 525 m50 95y cams and vanos, ecu, intake etc, and bolted on remus headers and custom made exhaust. but as engine consumed serious amount of oil 1l- 1000km i had to rebuild it ( doing it now) idiots who sold me this engine had left it outside for several months and this screwed up cylinder walls. its very sad that you have to rebuild engine that has just about ten thousand miles on clock

pistons are ok, only need oversized rings

these sprinklers are mounted near the crankshaft facing up to cool pistons from beneath

    old suspension components

    roll cage arrived!

    fabricating floor

front and rear strut tower modifications, will move rear springs on shocks

    mating gearbox to engine

And why are you cutting large holes out of your floor? Trying to go CSL style and replace it with carboard? lol

              new suspension components fabricated

              will use adjustable shocks

Estonian winters and H&R springs dont match, they will get my attention later. also will gather up all components which need coating( zinc, anodize, powder coating) and do them all together

              sachs sporting clutch

              closeup

fuel system will be totally different from what bmw came up, will use at least two fuel pumps- one to fill small tank and other to feed the beast from that tank. this is brand new bosch fuel pump worth about 300$, got it for 15$ and only had to open it up and remove debry

Ohhhhh it's a e30 themed Erector set!!! SWEET!!! hahaha.

I can see what you are doing, but the more important question is why?

I dont get it, what are you doing to the car.

Why are you cutting out the floorboard and firewall and replacing it with rolls bars?

well to clear it up for most people.

well as you see he is cutting out the all of the lower body, mounting a full blown cage, tubbing the whole car, modified firewall and trans tunnel, to fit some big ass custom drivetrain, modified rear strut towers with some nice reinfrocements....i could go on but i don;t want to spoile this project for the rest of you.

looks great nice progress so far keep the pictures coming.

                            :)
