you two have nothing but back luck with motors lately.
So Lives head was cracked and now your block is. are these motors really that weak? Ive seldom heard of M20s having these problem. But i guess performance comes at a cost.
    N/V M50 > M20

Looks like its coming along, sucks about the block though. Sounds like you're using Womack for the machine work. I used them in the past when I worked for thunder racing, they did pretty good work.
I've grabbed my fair share of E30 parts from german auto over the years. That was where I drove an E30 M3 for the first time 8 years ago and convinced me to buy mine.:)

Well, just got a call from the machine shop across the street. There is a crack where the front timing cover goes, from the edge of the front main bearing going towards the water pump.
So, I scavenged up a block in the back, and took that one over. It had already been torn down to basicly the bare block so that made it easy. Hopefully it doesn't have a taper. :|
My crank will be here in the morning. My bearings will be here in the morning also. I will be walking my crank across the street to get the bearing surfaces polished and the crank balanced.
I was pissed when I got the news, then I started searching for a block that would be easy to tear down and one that didn't have a lip at the top of the bores. I hope this one comes back good.

edit: Dave, care to let me in on the secret?

I've had the motor sitting at my parents place for like a year before I moved it to my work and began tearing it apart. I was sad to pull everything off of my red car, it was a thing of beauty (until the bitch hit me). I actually bought the headers and flywheel a few weeks after buying the motor in preparation, and while I was working as a Ironworker making bank, so it felt good to spend that much money, now it doesn't. lol
I've been dragging my feet with this because I was waiting for the title for the alpine. Now I'm just wanting to get the motor finished and only have to wait on my ECU by the end of the month.
