no one should dump $10-20K into an e30 with a built up S14 and custom steering and suspension and hack cage for their first HPDE. it's unfortunate you tools know nothing about tracking (just a little carting which is a bit different) and could spend half that money on entry fees and the other on a progressive neat track car build.
ID like to see you do a build like this, before you go running around calling me a fucking idiot. Im 20 and this is my first build, now if u can do better then this id love to see it, but untill u prove you can just stfu, and if you dont like me so much then dont post in in my fucking thread dickwad. O and your numbers are a little off. I have 10k in just tools.

I find it really funny what some of you desktop engineers are saying, im not doing this without any guideance and the people i trust of opinions on what im doing, have never said anything about some of the sheet metal ive cut out. Ironice that the people that do this for a living around me relized that you do have to cut out sheet metal to get some tubes to fit. I just cut a little more then needed since this is my first cage. If it takes a little longer to finish the car i really dont care. For me right now its all about building the car and learning as much as possible. Driving the car is simply the reward for all my effort.

Yea the car is a little cut up but i dont know of any other way to fit some of these bars with the level of skill, so like everything else it is always a compromise so i decided to cut the sheet metal in order to place the bars where i wanted them. All the sheet metal will be removed at the spot welds and new panels will the installed. Im getting complete front fender inner walls for the front.

Now for the update. I put the floor back in, it honestly was easyer then i expected.

The front passanger side of the cage is basicly done. I just have to do the other side and then i will install the bar to tie to the towers together to finish the front. The rear of the cage is done, and im very happy with how it turned out, I'm much happier with how it turned out vs the first time i did it. Ive also decided to tie my seat into the cage so im going to be adding a bar or two on the floor.

YEs the tube will be cut off shortly after the weld.

I finally got to use the dimple dies, idk how a cheap press can work, i tried a 10 ton and it didnt work i ended up using a 50 ton hydrolick press

You are a moron for building up your car like this before tracking it. (Let alone sloppy)

I'd rather do the driving instead of shit talking about my racecar for 3+ years and putting my shit to work instead of having a pile of parts in my garage.

I replaced my bad bushings, put in some track shit, and actually put in on the track. All you have done is buy AP brakes, search for a cf dash, talk about your S14, and be a tool.

Let us know when you are tracking in 2018, we'll be there with M20s and M50s and be riding your fiberglass bumper.

Yea i know i should of tracked it but this is the way things have turned out. Im going to buy another e30 to start doing a couple track events in this summer. Honestly you cant read otherwise u would see the end result of driving the car isnt the only goal. For me its about learning to do all of this, which i know u cant do other then simple bushings, but u sure know how to trash talk. Before this i didnt know how to do any of this, the piont of this project is for me to learn as much as i can about engineering of a complete car and how everything works together, basicly building a car from scratch.

Im not copying a DTM cage completly. The rear is a close copy with my own design for the diff tie in. The front is my own desgn on the strut tie in, which i got the idea for off the super touring car e36

The copy idea is more so because of the trailing arms and suspeansion set up, and it will be painted like a DTM car

That is a SERIOUS A-pillar gap! How sure are you that those engine bay bars will not interfere with the motor/exhaust?

                    Wow,

Lots of anger. Good luck with, I read most of this post and looks like a huge project with a lot of really cool go fast parts. It does look like some of the cage is copied from some of the holmagation papers I have seen. Also I would look seriously into how you tie you seat into the cage.

                    Thanks,

                    Tyler

You know... err, actually you don't, that it would be much more helpful in "engineering" a car if you understood how it worked by practice and experience, instead of solely reading something or getting advice. But errr, you don't know any better because you're just a kid bragging to people about brakes "we can't get" and we know you don't need.

Hmmm, if you didn't go to a CC you could be on a Formula SAE team using school funds to engineer and learn how to build a racecar instead of playing engineer in your garage without ever driving a car on the track.

You being a douchebag "racecar" builder.

But it would appear these are not the guys building road racing cages. As JP stated, that a pillar gap is INSANE.

He can have the best cages builders in the world but a track official may kick him out if he has some crazy seat tied to a roll cage. Image crashing and haveing a tube go through your back.

My point about looking over past documents stand, those guys spend big dollars on cage designs and they are basically out there to copy and buy.

I was pointing out the good in his thread and commenting positive things about him doing all the work himself. Was trying to give you guys a break.

He did note in another thread that Lance posted about brakes, I certainly can not afford those Ap brakes, way over my budget

I know, i was just putting that out there. they know how to build cages, and will make sure that the seat is mounted properly like you stated, a lot could go wrong there if done incorrectly
