Sorry I'm more interested in driving a car on its intended surface than building it in a garage for years.

I had an Erector set that was fun when I was a kid, but I got an E30 to track it.

I see a lot of un-needed weight/bars in this cage, without any real structural benefit.

A long time ago I learned from a cage builder that just adding bars for the sake of adding bars isn't always a good thing.

You really need to hop off his nuts and stop being his number one fan... OK SUPAHSTAR?

      Plus one.

Thanks for that, your post keeps me from having to type so much.

And i will be running a bar across the engine be similare to this car, which based on what i have read is one of the best cages ever put in a bmw, the mclaren super touring e36, so i think they knew what they where doing when they designed that
        "Impossible" in an e30.
Even an S14 takes up most the engine bay space in an e30.
The S42 shown in that car, is obviously mounted in an e36 chassis, which has a SUBSTANTIALLY larger engine bay. You won't be able to replicate that cage/chassis stiffening in a regular e30.

        Sorry man,

I agree there isn't way to replicate thAt set up in an e30, but with a couple of changes I feel I will be able to get similare results. Instead of the top bar going infront of the motor I while have it run over the motor and I will then be stressing the block in order to get a similare level of regidity.

Why didnt you just build a tubular sports sedan then overlay an E30 chassie?? would have been lighter and then you could have mouted you suspension in a much better location for racing. E30 suspension geometry is never going to be the best set up for hard racing if your building a car liek this.

because I am not confindent I would be able to pull that off. Its sounds easy to do but to actualy do it would be much more difficult

                    I disagree.

The way he has the firewall cut out right now, he can move the motor back a fair way. Just aslong as those bars at the rear of the motor arent too tight against it.

                    So it is possible really.

originally that was the plan, but im only gonna move the motor back around 2-3 inches. Once i get my dry sump pan and turbo, im gonna play around with motor location

I've been following this thread - I can't wait to see it done. I agree that the cage looks a little rediculous, but lets wait for the finished product guys. There are a TON of cool parts going into this, so I'm anxious to see it finished.
