This rain has been screwing with me for the past few days, so I don't have any cool updates to post. Swapped my odo into a 7k cluster, got all the maintenance stuff from BAV and my head just came back from getting checked/cleaned, so as soon as it drys out some it can start going back together.Byron

Ever since I bought this thing I have been second guessing myself about the condition of the rings; I know they're good, but there is still a little part in me that doubts. I have been kicking myself for not doing a compression test before I bought it, so I was planning on doing one now that the head and timing chain are on when I found this:
poop.
Apparently the junkyard that pulled the engine for me decided that it would be more fun to break the wires off than to unbolt them. Does anyone know if you can just buy the solenoid separately from the whole starter?
And one lame pic of how the engine is currently sitting

I don't mean to laugh...but I am right now (not at you). THe monkeys that pulled my motor took a hefty wack at certain parts too.
If I were you I'd find a low mileage 3.5 in the yard and pull it. Time < Money judging by the title of the thread. I wish you the best of luck! If I find a starter in the yard I'll pick it up for you.

That little solenoid is $106! Looks like a junkyard run is in my future.
Ahhh....that's what I meant. Go to the yard and find a low mileage "starter" and pull it. Fuck a new engine, no one could ever convince me to do that again haha.

Picture time!
But first, a big thank you to Mike, Cory and Jake for helping me all day.
We started painting the engine bay last night around 8:30, so its not the best paint job ever. For the conditions though, I don't think it came out too bad
Working on the engine
A rare picture indeed! That guy there is the crazy redneck making the e30 pickup

Engine about to go in after a day full of problems
It's in! I knew it would be tight, but daymn
I was trying to get the car done for the vintage festival this weekend, but there is just too many little things that need to be done/bought. When I get back on Tuesday, progress will start again.Byron
