It's better to replace the whole pivot joint because it's the bushing and the selector rod that wear and cause slop. The new foam piece will come as part of this.

In the selector rod pivot joint, there is a piece of really dense foam that disintegrates over time. You can buy it for like $0.20. It's what removes 90% of the "sloppiness" in your shift linkage. Check it out on realoem.com

there are two selector rod joints, one of them doesn't have any foam peice. it physically won't fit either.

I'm ready to change the oil pan seals on my M42. Is the job difficult? Would I have to drop the front subframe?
