in his defense, he has been very apologetic and promised to fix it; he doesn't seem like a shitbag. he got a little upset when i told him i called the city police non-emergency number so i could file an incident report, but you know what the military teaches... document everything and CYA.

his insurance is mercury and i am thankful for that, because it could have been some local fly-by-night operation which would make things a lot more difficult.

just finished up with the sheriff who came out and took the report. haven't heard back from robert today but i'll get the car down to him for an assessment when i can.

        i need a beer.

Honest people have no problem with playing by the rules, and that includes civil bullshit. Nice job on the CYA. Must be E6/7? lol.

I saw your car in person at roberts and she looks great.

                i remember you mentioned that.

haven't gotten around to replacing the seats yet but that was the next thing on the radar; wanted to do one last round of weight reduction. if you still want the heated sports then keep in touch.

yes, i know it needs a fucking bath, i've been busy with school.

right now i'm questioning why i've dumped fifteen grand into this goddamned car just to have an idiot neighbor back into it with his pickup truck. i could be driving a 20-year-old civic with a K swap and i wouldn't be having as much fun as i've had in this e30, but on the other hand i wouldn't be wanting to punch a hole in the wall of my house either.

                  FUCK.
There is a clean red vert fender at the yard. I could yank it for you

Seriously sucks Jason, but gotta always be looking on the brightside, it could have been much much worse.

quote to repair it is a little over $1800. that's bad enough, for some shit that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

took the car into robert's today.

got numbers on parts, paint, and labor.

the other party says at the amount quoted he's probably going to want to handle it out of pocket rather than pay for it over years with his premium.

i'm already about $300 out of pocket for parts... would i be off-base if i just asked for a check for the quoted amount? i don't want to dig into my own bank account any deeper.

and yeah... thankfully the bumper w/ the smoked lenses and the valance i just dropped half a grand on last month was untouched. i guess i can be thankful for people's pickup trucks.

Yeah ask for the $1800 and just replace with junkyard panels or look on this forum. You replace fender, hood, new smoked smilies and still be ahead $1k

i'm most of the way there.

a user from vegas got in touch and let me know he had an aw-II hood and fender for cost of shipping, someone from europe had a set of non-smoked smileys for $250, and someone from aus had euro grilles for $65.

gonna take a couple weeks to get all of this here to me, but i should come out about that far ahead even after paying robert for labor (i don't have anywhere to work on the car anymore).

i didn't need to worry about the guy, he's bringing the check by tomorrow. i think he thought it was gonna cost more.

Nice, theres a silver lining in everything. You should really get new smilies if you have extra cash to burn. The reflectors on most used ones are mostly flaked and faded.
