Well, one is much easier to get than the other from everything I hear. If someone needs a assault rifle, they should have to jump through a number of hurdles to get access to it, it shouldn't be something that a few phone calls or a simple (and often flawed) background check can get. I know it's a controversial subject, but I think both side agree that they shouldn't be that accessible. That's all I'm saying.

You did not answer the question.

If you want to argue what's the reason for needing it, we can start to argue against a myriad of everyday items we use because "What's the use of it?"

I mean, why do I have two cars when I could just public transportation or walk? Ride a bicycle? Instead of spewing caustic toxins into the air?Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

It's overkill, sure having two or three cars may also be considered overkill as well, but having a gun is one thing, having something used by most armies seems pointless and unsafe for the average "law-abiding citizen."You did not answer the question.

No one needs anything. Why do cops need Assault rifles? Because if they encounter a situation like the Hollywood bank shootout, they need the fire power to compete. If criminals have access to them, why shouldn't the general law-abiding citizens have the same kind of fire power?

Seriously, GTFO of this thread. You know NOTHING about this topic.Comment

Same reason you can't own a hand grenade.

Self defense? Get a Mossberg 500 pump with some buckshot.

I'm all for common sense guns/weapons laws.

Yes I know you can kill someone with a sharpened picnic knife if you wanted to.Comment
