once your body doesn't crave the desire to smoke or changes its habit then you will find yourself not desiring to smoke.

edit: dam i read another poster's comments but yeh what he said use chantix, it the most effective.

Make absolutely sure you read up on the side effects of that shit before going on it. It may not affect you in a negative way but you should know what the problems are and have folks you know keep an eye on you.

You can do it man! I quit smoking this month (the month of May) and thus far it's been challenging but actually not too bad.

(already mentioned in the thread) Find a copy of "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" By Alan Carr. You can download an audio version off of bit torrent. Listening to it really helped me out a lot.

Hard but can be done. I did because it was an excuse not to do stuff with my family since I didnt do it around them. Got tired of that, only around so much dont need any lame excuses to not hang out with family.

Love how everything tastes better. Like coffee, wine and water.

Did it about 9 months ago successfully, haven't looked back. First 5 weeks were hell for me, but was good after that.Even after about 3 months, I was out drinking with some buddies and bummed one from a friend and was surprised how gross it was.

going to try to kick this shit although it's going to be damn hard come drinking time. I usually don't smoke unless I'm drinking (sometimes smoke in between a class or two during the day). For me it's always been more of a psychological thing. I don't suffer from nicotine fits or whatever and, I actually feel sick when I smoke them unless smoking while drinking.

They say it takes 30 days to kick a habit. I haven't gone 30 days without a smoke in a long time.

Power to you guys who will be trying to quit and those who have.

good luck to ya! It's definitely possible, just not easy!

here's quick DIY quit smoking mini-thread:

1)excersize-speeds up the body's recovery process of flushing toxins, and there's nothing like running 3+ miles to make you NOT want to smoke (also, biking, swimming, lifting)

2)get some really angry music in your car and yell at everyone all the time (Cannibal Corpse, Nasum etc)

3)get huge bags of sunflower seeds. I used this to curb the 'oral fixation' portion. this way you're constantly doing something, and just like smoking, you have to do it outside. it's also very satisfying to just chill out and spit seeds every where. this also helps with hunger, since nicotine is an appetite suppressant, and you'll want to eat all the time.

+10 to everything tasting and smelling better
For instance, I walked in to my house last week and said 'mmmm, cucumbers!' while I was standing in the doorway. The girl who was slicing them in the next room over replied 'what?! you can smell that?!?!' (she smokes a pack a day)

I quit about 10 years ago (half pack a day) but I can have a cig once in awhile. I control the cigarette...it doesn't control me...

like people have said it's WILL POWER

I quit every time I put one out ;)

In all seriousness, before I turned 21 I smoked a pack a day since I was 15. If I ran out, I didn't care. Several weeks go by? No biggy. After turning 21 though, if I don't have at least 3 cigarettes in a day, I'm an angry, angry baby. Keep trying to quit, but after so many times I just don't even tell anyone I'm trying as it likely wont happen anyways.

But yeah, +1 on crap smelling better and tasting better. When I struggle through a month, stuff always starts coming to life a little bit more.

IMO, the easiest time to quit is when you get sick. I had a fucking horrible cold last time and went 2 days without a smoke.

I don't know if any of you guys ever smoked an American Spirit Menthol, but they are second only to non-filters in strength, like free-basing a Certs.

2 days off the smokes and I was able to quit. 2 weeks in I did a fairly major 3 day pool tournament. I wanted to kill the 2 women who made up the other 2/3rds of my team, as they were both bickering and shit, plus basically sucked at pool, tanking bad under pressure....had the twat who thought she was all strong and shit NOT crumbled, we had a good chance to win the whole fucking tourney, instead of taking home 6th...and I made it through without smoking.

Last time I quit was 8.5 years, time before that was about 5 years. I hope to be done forever...time will tell.

                      GL!

I smoked reds for 7 years, and then switched to Natural American Spirits. About 2 weeks ago I just quit cold turkey, so with drawl, no real issues, nothing like when I tried to quit previously with or without no smoking aids.
