25 years old, and laid off from a parts job at a dealership. The dealer is going under, so only being there for around a year I was on the first cut list. Can't blame em, I (and most parts guys) were overpaid there. Rest assured, I will be in a law enforcement academy come around January if all goes well. So until then, Im prepping myself and getting in the best shape possible, and reading as many LE books I can get my hands on. It's the only time I'll need unemployment, so Im taking advantage. I'll be retired in 30 years at 90% pay.

I'm funemployed as well, I used to work for bose, got put on probation for being late too often and got cut when they had to reduce hours. Taking the loss of employment to finally go to school, hopefully to become a product engineer.

i think if you're going to be receiving money from the government, they should hand you a shovel or a rake or something and organize some groups to go clean some aras up, especially in big cities. I see a lot of potential difficulties in organizing something like that, but there are still opportunities to be productive. They could offer free meals, make it a community event for all unemployed, who knows what could happen...

That'd certainly be a good start. You wouldnt need the overpaid state workers on the side of the road cleaning up trash. I always thought the same thing. And as for the welfare parents who just sit around and do nothing, make THEM go out in the fields and pick vegetables. Give their labor to the farmer for cheap, with incentives. Maybe it'll take away job opportunities from illegals, meaning LESS of a reason to come here. Then slowly take them off of welfare, making them a professional field laborer, saving the state more money.

Ok 1 you are not getting money from the govt (mostly) You are getting money that you paid into the system, and your former employer gets a bill form the state when you file for it that they must pay. You see its when you are working your employer pays the premium on every hour you work. Thats built into his cost structure, if he did not have to pay that in you would be getting that money, IE we all work for a lower wage to pay for UE.

Now when you get laid off and file for UE and its determined that you qualify to receive UE, the state sends your former employer a bill for depending on the state I think MI is on the order of 7k (if you draw max benefit) to pay for your UE. Max draw from MI is 362 for 26 weeks, 96xx IIRC. Its not money from the GOVT its insurance that is paid for by you and your former employer that is administered by your state govt. Till just this year if you worked in 2 states you could draw UE from any state in the union even if you did not work in the state, Mass pays 6xx a week, and this was big money maker for the state as many mulit state construction workers would go there to file. They would draw the larger benefit for a couple of months and be back to work. Now the state of Mass would then contact the other states you worked in and get your money form them. They would much of the time take in more money for you than they would out lay on benefit to you thus profit on paying your UE. Sadly the F-troop, had put an end to this loop hole, which will effectively fuck many traveling workers that work in the deep south or RTW states that pay shit for UE just because thats where the job was that year.. I think MS is like 145 a week and LA is not much more than that.

Now onto your point about people having to do shit along side the road and what not. This was tried a number of years ago in NYC for the long time Welfare recipients 25 hours a week (IIRC) of community service to get your check. Well the ACLU, and god knows how many Liberals and lawyers screamed bloody murder and sued the city to stop the program before it really got started.

Last but not least one of the conditions of receiving UE is you are supposed to be looking for a YOB, how can you be looking for a yob when you have been conscripted into civil service to get your own money back outta the system that was put in just for when you lost your job..

Please get your facts about the system and know how it works before start talking out of an orifice other than your mouth, on a topic you obviously know nothing about.
