you just said you weren't gonna look for a job because of it. don't try to say that you "need" it. I don't know how you ended up on it, and I'm not so naive to think it was your choice to be on it, but for yourself and the country and people you care about, stop leaching off of it and get a job.

        Get it?

I don't have a problem with people claiming unemployment benefits and I expect claims to be up right now. But it irritates me when people are actually happy that they can jerk around while I'm busting my ass at work to pay for it. I guess that makes me the chump right?

I actually do look for a job. I lost about $300 a week by not being employed, which was basically all my free spending money. If I could find a job where I was making the same money, Id take it in a heart beat. Then I can afford my supplements again, lol.

Well I guess that does add to you being a chump, but not the sole factor.

Good read. Me and a couple of my co-workers have been notified that we are getting laid off at the end of june back in DECEMBER and EVERYFUCKINGDAY we've been looking for jobs and applying. And guess what? A couple interviews and nothing else.

This isn't 1999 when finding a job took a week or a month at most, people with 10+ years of experience in professional fields can't find shit...why would they take a shit job when they can keep looking for the job they've been doing OR take a break and do other things like read or whatever else.

Unemployment benefits are there for a reason. Stop acting all high and mighty, it might just affect you tomorrow ;)

Maybe if US would stop f-ing outsourcing everything to India things would actually get better...good luck.

you've been looking for work.. that puts you out of the league of the mouthbreathers who are leeching the system. And, you aren't bragging about how you're not going to look for work.

And, if people didn't leech off the system and artificially raise wages here, maybe those jobs would have stayed here.

I am 20 years old and don't know everything but my experience transcends that of most my age. I bring up my age because even with my few years of (real) working experience I've had, it is blatantly apparent that you're right Jean this isnt 1999 and the stability that comes with a degree or even a decade or more of experience is just no longer there. There is NO gurantee of work within ones field. That is why you must ever be conforming to the demands of the current markets and ever vigilant of new endeavors however foreign they may be to your repertoire of skills. You are correct, there is less and less opportunity here in the states in alot of traditional fields. But does this downsize in availabilty justify your apparent nonchalance in shedding civic duty of contribution? Or should you relay your skillset elsewhere and maybe find excellence?

FYI: As it seems a fuck ton of people on this thread do not know. UE is not meant as a sabatical to catch up on your literature.... or to get in shape... Stay in shape anyway!

And Im sorry to hear about your situation man (Jean) I hope everything goes well for you. Best wishes.

PaladinReed - not to be a dick, but add another 10 years of working w/o taking more than 3 months off in that 10 years to build your career and then I'll tell you to start all over.

So, I'll keep looking for a job in my field that I've put years in and read a book or enjoy a trip to SF ;)

Ok, just voicing my opinion on the subject. I think we have established clearly that it is people like yourself that use the system in at least a semi-proper manner. I don't know if Id say I were (to quote you) "taking 3 months off". But that is me. And I also would not change my profession based on a 3 month delay in between jobs either. But as you put it, it sounds like you are suffering because of outsourcing and if there is no way to recover a position domestically within your field Id say its time you reconsidered your position on career change until you become one of the lamenting abusers. Not to be a dick or anything - ...
Once again, these are just my views and I do wish you luck and an enjoyable break.
