I got layed off the thursday before last. I just got a call today from them, letting me know that i was needed again and they were reinstating my employment.
I dont know what i would have done if they wouldnt have called. I was doing the best i could to pay bills even with a steady job.

I dont thin MD UE pays that good its about 350 a week before taxes IIRC

I am drawing of PA this year 558 a week is one of the best paying UE states in the country.

I am funemployed every winter, the 1st 4-6 weeks is good, I catch up on sleep, and family time and other stuff that I cant get to when I am gone all of the work season. after about that I want to get back to work as I start to stress as I have to start pulling cash back out to make bills and have a life. Now its been too long I need to get back to work I am stressed out to the max.

Does this disturb/disgust anyone else. Go get a fucking job... contribute... find some useful outlet for your skills however menial it might be. There is ALWAYS some work. It just seems disturbing to be such a parasitic drag on society. I work two jobs and am a sophmore at a private University. All done by myself with my own self-generated means. Just seems rediculous for someone to not even be able to support themselves. In our country, just surviving, is not difficult.

That better not be pointed at me. I have a feeling I paid more in taxes last year than you made, I contribute plenty

I work 80+ hours a week 10 months a year most of the time (from sept 1-dec17 last year I had 6 days off in total). I draw UE because I work for less money through out my employment, so my employer can pay the premiums just like you or any other person dose. UE is govt regulated insurance not a GOVT "hand out". True now there is a 13 week extension that funded by the F-troop but thats not the case most of the time.

But I do agree that just pulling the cash and not looking to gain employment is crap. I know I have a job once the work starts in the spring.

I gotta say, after 4 years of school, having an unemployed summer to myself was pretty amazing, even though I was poor.

I found myself spending my last $20 of the month on a bottle of whiskey instead of food. I figured I could eat and be sober, or get so drunk I forgot I was hungry.

                      Twas good times.

Then I got a job and bought an e30 - and I still find myself having to make that decision.

Cross country pipe line and refinery chem plant shut downs mostly, some fab shop work here and there when we have the time. I work all over the country and never get any time at home save for the slow season. Sure I could go work in TX or LA MS but then I would never get to see my GF, my house, my dog, all my stuff other than my truck and luggage. I have spent as little as 31 days at home in a year before.

Just a bit slow in getting going this spring I am chomping at the bit

It bothers me that there are people with no initiative just sitting on their ass collecting money from our government.
If you get laid off, I don't have a problem if you collect unemployment, that's what it is for, but try looking for a job immediately. Don't sit on your ass and "ride the gravy train". Fuck that bothers me alot.

I just kinda skimmed the wiki it seems fairly right, I deal with sources mostly, dont use x-ray tubes too often other than on our internal crawlers our source cameras are the cable type the other 2 are not used anymore as the operator soaks up to much radiation with them .

I do most all NDT disciplines other than the Ultrasonics, that will be school next winter.

Yeah the being away from home sucks a bunch, but it pays "well" I enjoy the work, the travel SUCKS. Its only gonna be this busy for 7-8 more years tops and then all the pipe lines in the country will be new or newish and it will be small work. I was a laborer on them about 10 years ago and a pipe layer on local jobs and got to sleep in my own bed every night. That was killing my body and I am broke down pretty good for 28, this is easier on the body but still have to work my ass off.

I will find something else to do at that point which there is not lots of work and hours to justify the out of town life.
