LS motors actually get a pretty good gas mileage.

You have to consider everything for the LS swap too. Yeah the motor and tranny could cost $3k-4k but then you have to get headers that clear, booster relocation, custom mounts, ecu issues, etc. I'd say atleast another $2k and thats if make the parts yourself. There goes your full budget and your car is still rusty and needs fixing.

LS-e30 swap is not a young adult college build/budget. Its not straight forward like an s5x/m5x swap or m30 swap.

I've found that the ls2 out of a 2005 gto has the short headers and woulld fit lovely in the e30. LS2 and T56 trans with all accs. plus DBW pedal comes to about 5k... not too bad seeing that Ive added the cost of the custom front driveshaft. Still looking for a mock up.

I'm willing to purchase the mock up now and start doing the body work in the engine bay... I can take my measurements and have the mounts made.. I'm worried about the trans and the shifter tho.

400hp is way more than what I need or want but thats what will keep the car exciting. I'll probably never floor the car unless im doing a burnout. the thought of this is pushing the gauge towards the swap.

Don't buy a bike unless you want to die. It's obvious you have comprehension of the acceleration capability of a modern sport bike, an Bone stock R6 will run the 1/4 in under 11 secs. And liter bikes can't be touched until you get to the really high dollar stuff (Porsche turbo, etc)

And sport bikes are much less forgiving when it comes to making mistakes, and it's easy to do when sending more to the ground than a stock E30 through a contact patch the size of a playing card.

Lots of talk from someone who clearly doesn't ride bikes.

I say get the bike, they are way too much fun. Just make sure to get the gear to go with it, and get it out on a track. Really makes you slow down on the street plus trains you to ride better.

you want your first bike to be an r1? Thats way too much bike for a beginner. Start off on something used that you can thrash on because it will be dropped. Take the MSF course and go from there.

                      thanks to all above....

PAYNEY just hit me hard with the perfect idea....

I can't believe I didn't think of it first... I can buy the bike and take my time stripping and rebuilding the bimmer... OMG this is awesome!

ok. ok. so. I'll think this over a lil more but I think this may be the winner...

I'm not such a beginner to bikes. I have plenty experience including a few drops on a
G750... Those suzuki 750's are fucking insane! too wild for my taste.. the R1 is more tame and way better handling imo. that included with a trick shift = win...

only problem is, by the time i buy the bike, it'll be winter.... winter + sportbike = fail....

other problem is, if I get a bike i'll get addicted. I did to my first bike and was horrified when I found out I couldn't keep it....

                      thinkin...

not like slow, its faster than the 750 but easier to control and more responsive...

I guess its cuz the 750 was carb

I'm not a fan of 1000s...way to much power for most people and just not a lot of places you can open it up.

LSx swap in an E30 is going to be a bitch, but so would totaling a R1, which lets face it, it'll go down at some point. So...I'd still say neither.

well the reason i want an ls2 is so I would be completely satisfied with the power. It's more than enough n theres not a bunch of places for me to open it up... but when track day comes IM GOD! and at car meets....

just like me perfering and r1 over the r6. I've pushed the limits of a 600cc and its easily reached... the 1000 is something i can ride and never have to attempt the limit.

two sum it up, either way will never get boring...

                                A carbed 750 with more power than a R1
A new one would probably be faster on the track. 750s usualy are verry fast on the track because there so light.

Fuck Yamaha def dont get a R6... Do the swap you could probably get the whole thing done for like around 6-7k Buy a painless harness and you could pick up an LS engine with the 6speed for like 3500. Then all the lill odds and ends.
