McCain would have done no better... at least to this point. He would have inherited the same problems as Obama. Difference would be that he would have kept on touting the old Rep ways of doing "business", instead of trying to do what's best for the country.
If anything Obama getting elected has forced the GOP to rethink it's philosophies. I'm looking forward to seeing what a younger and more open minded rep party can give us for candidates in the future. Before Bush I used to be more rep than dem... 8 years of hell changed that.Leave a comment:

Apples and oranges... but I get your point. You can judge him on his actions, but you can't judge him by the results of those actions yet. I'm holding out to judge him at all until I see whether what he is doing works or not.
There's not much we can do... if companies go under, jobs are lost. That's the reasoning behind the bank bailouts and the bailout of GM. I just made the 20% up... lol 90% of all statistics are made up on the spot. But between the banks, investment companies, and GM... it would be a lot of people. You say that like there's nothing we can do about it and that it's inevitable, which is not true at all... Exactly! Though I don't know where the 20% would come from, they didn't employee that many people, and didn't do business with that many companies to make up a good 10% of the job market.
Agreed, I'd love to see cuts in all sorts of things... mainly the bureaucracy. Flat tax everyone at say... 10% (OH NOES!!!) and you'd eliminate quite a bit of gov't bureaucracy right there. The IRS would shrink by 95% (also made up). Then send ALL surplus' to the deficit. At least until the gov't owned portion was paid off.
Defense spending just not all that necessary right now. We are the major power of the world with our current technologies and assets. We could remain so for quite some time. After the country pays off it's debt, then we can start spending on other things again. We would save a sh*t ton of money if we would just bring our troops home.
Only way to fix our problems... is to pay off our debt and increase the value of the dollar again.
Not enough people realize, and even worse... not enough people care. They're too self absorbed worrying about themselves. And that goes for the rich and poor alike. The rich are worrying they are going to be taxed more and the poor are worried they won't get their welfare benefits.
The only people not worried are the elderly because they have full social security benefits and have access to Medicare and other fed programs that won't be there when we retire.
We live in a VERY selfish society who feel entitled to everything. Plus we think we are superior to everyone else in the world. Those two things will be our downfall. Ha... sorry for the rant at the end.Leave a comment:

I find threads like this depressing.
I feel like we are doomed with nothing left to do. Talking to a majority of my friend's doesn't make me feel any better. All of those that came out of the woodwork to vote Obama don't have a fucking clue what's going on.Leave a comment:

You got that right :(
Come on. If you did something ten minutes ago, could I judge you on that now? Absolutely. Even an attempt is an action, we can judge his attempts to pass garbage legislation too.
Not everyone. You mean the Democrats and the Neo-cons, the ones gaining the power and making the money. There were a bunch of true fiscal conservatives that opposed it every step of the way.
You say that like there's nothing we can do about it and that it's inevitable, which is not true at all.
I think we need cuts across the board. I agree with cutting defense spending, but lets start with some of the programs not outlined in the constitution first.
Agree 100%. I think the plan is garbage. Even if I liked it, I think the timing is horrible.
Exactly! Though I don't know where the 20% would come from, they didn't employee that many people, and didn't do business with that many companies to make up a good 10% of the job market.Oh and I wish he would have let GM FAIL!!! It's basic free market/capitalism. If your company doesn't earn profits over along time period, it fails. Same goes for a few of the banks that received bail out money. But if he did that everyone would be complaining that unemployment would be at 20% by now.
If we continue on this course we're on you're absolutely correct. I don't feel it's too late to change it, but I do think not enough people realize why we're in such poor shape or the necessary steps we must take to fix it.I hate to say it, but this country will fail... it's on borrowed time already (200 years for an average democracy). Our gov't (for the last 20 years, not just the current admin) is operating just like GM and the banks did. You can only go into debt so far before people realize you are a terrible risk. What happens when our debtors stop loaning us money? Or worse, want us to actually repay? *gasp*Leave a comment:

T. Roosevelt was insane, an untreated manic/depressive man. He may have cared about the country, and done all he possibly could to help the American people, but he was hardly effective as POTUS.Wow, that is exactly how I feel. Once in a century will you really have that President that is HONESTLY doing all he can for the American people. Two of them that ring a bell within the last century were the Roosevelts. Both Teddy and FDR I think did great things for our country.
Fuck politicians.Leave a comment:

there are those that blame FDR for starting the entire govt spending/welfare system itself. that's the school of thought that advocates that we should have ridden out the great depression without the new deal.Wow, that is exactly how I feel.
