what do you mean? If the government gives me money it's free of course.
;)
I wouldn't worry about older BMWs too much though - the top ten traded in cars are mostly late 90's Ford SUVs and minivans.
Americans hate Ford
As U.S. News & World Report reported Tuesday morning, preliminary figures from the Cash for Clunkers program showed that these vehicles were the ones that Americans most often clunked for cash:
1. 1998 Ford Explorer
2. 1997 Ford Explorer
3. 1996 Ford Explorer
4. 1999 Ford Explorer
5. Jeep Grand Cherokee
6. Jeep Cherokee
7. 1995 Ford Explorer
8. 1994 Ford Explorer
9. 1997 Ford Windstar
10. 1999 Dodge Caravan
On the flip side, these are the new cars that were bought most often under the program, according to the preliminary figures:
1. Ford Focus
2. Honda Civic
3. Toyota Corolla
4. Toyota Prius
5. Ford Escape
6. Toyota Camry
7. Dodge Caliber
8. Hyundai Elantra
9. Honda Fit
10. Chevy Cobalt
to be honest even though these cars are only about 10 years old, ford explorers aren't exactly known for their quality so it's not really stretching it to call them clunkers.
Sweet, pretty soon we will all be working for the govt 6 months out of the year whoo hoo. I wouldnt have it any other way, the bigger the gov the better. I am starting to grow tired of making my own decisions any way. What to do, what doctor to see, what to say, what to watch... etc. Now if the govt could just shut up those angry MOBS of brainwashed republican people who cant see how effective the govt health care system is going to be. I mean look at medicare its doing fine right?

Programs that allow homeowners to trade in their old refrigerators and scoop up a rebate — a sort of “cash for clunkers” system for the fridge — are spreading quickly across the country.

I'm not sure where that list originated, but I find it unreliable. They list separate years for the Explorers, not for the Jeeps. They list specific model Cherokees, not Explorers. Etc...
On another note, my 97 Explorer is a lot more reliable then either of my BMW's. Cheaper to maintain, more comfortable, etc... I'll even go out on a limb and say better build quality (more heavy duty parts). It tows 6400 lbs and seats 5 comfortably. The only thing my e30's have going for them in comparison is the fact that they can be more fun to drive (except when I'm in rush hour) and they get better gas mileage. I'd hardly call my Explorer a "clunker" though.
