I'm not going to lie I've considered trading in my e30 for C4C, and unless I can get away with picking up some cheap junker it may still be a reality. Although I love my e30, it burns oil, has a rough idle, sometimes stalls, and the quarter panel and door are crushed so the passenger door doesn't open. I'm not going to lie I would love to get something nicer, but it will be very hard to give up durtle (e30's pet name), and I can't afford insurance on 3 cars

The more E30s people turn in the more mine goes up in value.

Ha ha ha, my wife's old van is #9 on that first list.

What's another $2 billion dollars on the taxpayer's backs? We don't need to spend that money on things like healthcare, or anything like that.

don't worry guys.. it's all coming from the pot of money designated for "economic stimulus" as I understand. Because that makes it all better....

My parents have a total piece of shit 91 Exploder, would be a perfect candidate for this but I dont think they want or need a new car payment right now. Although my dad is looking at e46's. 330ci's particularly.

I need to find one of these money trees the gov't has. :(

Of the 70 or so clunkers we have so far at our dealer, only 1 is a BMW. 86 535i.:(

this whole cash for clunkers thing has sounded a bit off for me from the start. Everyone griped about government spending in the Bush years and now we have this.

For spending all that money, America needs to benefit from it somehow, i.e. to make the 2 bil worth it. The only intended benefit i see is the attempt to reduce emissions to preserve the oh-so-precious ozone layer, which if anything at all, is being destroyed by countries like China anyway.

Not that i believe global warming is as big a problem as people like Gore make it out to be. The economy in the pooper is a bigger problem at the moment.

easy; the EPA took the previously measured MPG values, used a magic formula, and now a 318is gets 19mpg. err, what?

dude, I'm no climate change enviro wacko, but at least get the basics right. It has nothing to do with the ozone layer (which has been shrinking and will be gone in 20-30 years, thanks to the CFC ban). The ozone layer is what they used to scare the kids with when I was in school back in the 80's. ;)

Yea everything was changed, I read about the formula they used, something about now including ac use.

yeah but they didn't actually retest the older cars, that was my point. they came up with a magic number, multiplied it by their past results, and called it "more accurate". er, yeah.

I don't know how you'd get 19mpg out of a 318is, because the one I drove was a beat to shit pile with 250k and a slipping clutch, and I never got less than 30.

yeah, the ozone layer thing was really just a guess on my part.... ;)

My point is that whatever the purpose is for this program, i am sure there are more pressing matters that the gov't should be spending 2 bil on.

If I have to pay inflated prices for cars I'm scrapping, at least I'm selling some of the crappy cars my car companies are building. [/SARCASM]
