    Cameras!

My son is due in two weeks, and i am looking for a good camera to capture the moments. I have experience with a film SLR camera, but i wouldnt mind something i can immedtly upload to the computer, internet, emails, ect.

What do you guys think is a good setup for a general use? I wouldnt mind buying lenses later on, but right now i am just looking for a simple setup.

Throw me ideas, as i am in the market.

Nikon D40, great entry level DSLR. Easy to use. good lenses. Relatively inexpensive.

Sony alphas are also good too.

If I was going to get a digital SLR, I would pick up a used Canon 20D. I used to work for a photographer, and we used them a lot, with great results.

VIDEO TAPE IT. it's so much better. Get a Nikon d90, it will allow you to take some videos.

The new Panasonic GF1 is a great option, gives you a point and shoot sized body But will accept any of the 4/3 lens's

If you are considering a DSLR, I'd also add the Canon's into the mix. They have them in an assortment of prices...go look at the XS, XSi, T1i, 50D and see what you think of the various price points. The Nikons are also nice, although I personally don't like their button layout nearly as much...just clunkier. I've used an XT, XTi and currnetly shooting with a 50D/ You can see some examples here. I would strongly suggest looking into a flash to go along with the camera, it will do wonders for the baby pictures...if you go Canon, pick up the 50mm f/1.8 lens. It's CHEAP and SHARP and the cheapest way to get a good portrait lens.

              Hope that helps

Get the Canon T1i, it's a DSLR that can capture 1080p video and it won't cost you your... ermm... first born.

                Perfect.

AFAIK, you cant video tape births anymore. I asked this on our "tour" at the hospital, and they said photos are ok, AFTER dilivery and mother and child are in their room. Plus, she is going with a c-section, therfor my hands will be broken with her strength of fear, lol.

I am doing research, i forgot how in depth the camera industry is.

BTW, i have a nice digital video camera for this past summer, so i am set for home videos.

Another Canon vote. I love those things. Nikons are good also, but the Canons can use Nikon lenses - Not vice versa.

Once again, OP what's your price range?

If you had an infant, you are going to have to bring a stroller, diaper bag, baby bottles etc. I wouldn't add an SLR to the list, I would get something like a Sony H20, good zoom and takes good pictures, with a fast lens.

As long as you go FULL manual.

One advantage of Nikon is you can use lenses that are older than the late 80s/early 90s. All 50 years of them.
                            Im now E30less.
