Thanks JP! :p I can't complain :D ...I went to "Punta Hermosa - Caballeros" beach, just 40 kms south of Lima, very quick...my friend was driving as he wanted to drive his first Porsche besides I was with two big Pisco sours in my blood stream....:giggle:

Remember they were in a hurry to finish those minimum 25 cars for the FIA to approve the 917 for LeMans etc. in 1969. Fast / strong / light were important. Pretty was not. Then as they developed the chassis, they scabbed on bars and plates where they needed them.
I think three of them were magnesium instead of steel. Some of them had a tire valve welded onto a tube. They pressurized the frame with some kind of gas, and a pressure switch would tell them if a crack developed. With a structure that's designed to <just> be strong enough to do the job, that's kinda important.
