I've read more than enough threads here and elsewhere that have a negative opinion of the current administration (I'm not going to say whether I agree or not, so as to not spoil the idea of this thread), which got me wondering...

If McCain had won the election instead of Obama, what do you think he would have accomplished/pushed for, during the first 8 months (give or take) of his presidency?

What type of policies do you think would have been his main focus-would it be Healthcare? Iraq/Afghanistan? The Deficit? The Economy? etc?

I'm curious to see what everyone thinks McCain would have done. Please leave your opinions about Obama out of the discussion because I'm sure that those differing opinions will get this educational discussion locked pretty quickly.

Again, this is a discussion to not only humor my curiosity, but to also educate everyone on what the general public feels could have been different about our reality today had the votes gone differently.

Much smaller bailout. No, or much more limited, health care reform that would have been closer to budget-neutral. Iraq war drawdown on the same schedule it is now. Better handling of Eastern Europe Missile defense removal. Less American celebrity, more strict sanctions/less waffling with regard to Iran, North Korea, More even-handed pressure placed on both Israel and Palestine. (Currently, Israel is the only one who is being pressured by Washington. Lots of talk about settlements, no talk about missiles fired from the Gaza Strip that Israel gave up a few years ago unilaterally.)

The rest of the world would not love us as much, but we would be in a stronger position to secure our interests. And no, everything would not be magically better if he had been elected.

To place someone in administration who is a far right conservative is no better than having an extreme left liberal. Whether we agree with everything the President is doing or not, we would, most likely, still be in the same situation. Obama inherited trillions of dollars worth of debt from the 8 years of Bush aimlessly funding wars. Our economy has been digressing for years. A recession doesn't happen in a few months. Sadly, it seems none of the politicians would have been able to immediately salvage the ruins of Bush.
