Do you also believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus as well?
Note: I'm not jumping on E30Cabrio and (ctrl+V)edubin's "WARARAAAAGHHH, THE (dot) GOVERNMENTTT!!!" bandwagon, but I do think the C4C program was a poor decision to jumpstart the economy. Could McCain and his Harvard grad VP done any better, who knows?- Trey

Going from 14 to 20mpg? Who cares. That is a drop in a 55 gallon drum. You take someone that was driving a 'clunker' and consider the car is worth LESS than 4500 dollars. Do you believe that they should take the 4500, grab a car payment? Keep in mind a loan REQUIRES full coverage insurance. So you have to consider that as well. Did they have full coverage on their clunker before?
Do you remember what got us here? Government promoting giving those that cannot and should not home loans... but hell yes let's get some people home loans and now give away taxpayer money to fund SOMEONE ELSE getting a new car.
Sure does make you 'feel' good doesn't it? Remove many good used cars and trash their motors. Don't let someone buy the running motor to swap into a car that needs a motor. Carbon to crush cars, carbon to transport clunkers, carbon to build a new car(that is crappy and might last 100K) and more carbon to transport new cars to dealers... should we go on?

I am no fan of C4C, but let's clear the air a little:
1. It was never intended as a green program. It was clearly a life vest to domestic auto
2. The Edmunds "analysis" is based on what-if analysis, which is hokey
3. It did spur Q3 GDP and kept at least some jobs from being lost in the auto sector
4. It pales in comparison to the $500k/soldier we'll need to spend to add troops to Afghanistan
So clearly while it is a very tactical shot in the arm that may not yield much in the way of long term sustainability in the auto sector, we can clearly find worse ways to spend money. I find it funny that the so called fiscal conservatives never criticize the obscene expenditure that this administration is making on foreign wars but harps on these?

Hey VDubin, as you seem to excell in calculation, can you tell us how much sending troups to Iraq and Afghanistan has cost per capita. Another price that was paid is the human lives. How much was that other cost?Last edited by Massive Lee; 10-30-2009, 03:25 PM.Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.
