Any Verizon users pick up the new Droid?

After holding out for the better part of 2 years for Verizon to get the iphone, I think I'm going to try the Droid. My co-worker has one and loves it. I see that verizon offers the Motorola and HTC variant, which one should I go with and what is your experience with the phone?

    Discuss.

I am currently considering leaving verizon to hop on at&t for the iphone, but I don't want to give up vzw service. plus I'm hoping that some day these stupid iphone to verizon rumors come true

I was thinking droid, but in person it seems rather bulky. the reasoning for this is the keyboard, which everyone on the local forum says is sub-standard to the touch screen keyboard anyway.

HTC droid eris is slim and sleek, more comparable in size to the iphone. It uses google 1.5 whereas motorola droid uses 2.0, but it's been confirmed from verizon that a software update will be available in january for teh eris to run google 2.0

I think with the release of Android 2.0 the OS should be pretty solid and it just depends on if you like hte hardware. Personally, I really want to try out an Android device.

A buddy of mine has the Droid and really loves it. I've played around with the g1 for a long time now and it's gotten a lot better with updates, with the release of 2.0 I think these are some great phones!

Copy and paste of my review on it from my Android OS thread.

It kicks its ass. Android OS pwns and the physical QWERTY keyboard leaves NOTHING to be desired. I love it. My sister delivered it to me while I was at work today and I was giddy as all hell playing with it. I seriously did nothing but play with it for the rest of my shift.

There isn't anything you could want that this phone doesn't have. It even has turn by turn directions free from Google Maps, which makes my Garmin basically uneeded. And a 3.5mm headjack to plug in makes this the replacement to my iPod nano entirely.

And it comes with a 16GB microsd card, which is badass. I keep finding more and more features and geeking out even more.

Got an Invisible Shield from zagg.com on it and I'm ready to roll!
The apps are cool too. I really dig the google maps now that I've gotten the chance to play with it. Text to speech is great and audible. If you don't like the music player it comes with you can download other ones. Tons of apps in the Android Marketplace. I love showing off the touch keyboard, then saying "no, I don't like this," changing to the landscape touch keyboard, then saying "I don't like this either" and sliding the physical QWERTY keyboard out. Such a great phone. Even my iphone nerd friends are highly impressed.

And the built in speaker? Loud! Great audio quality during youtube/video/mp3 playback. It blows away the speaker on the iTouch/iPhone 3GS' I've played with.

it is barely thicker than an iphone, though.

By millimeters honestly. Thickness compared to the iPhone 3GS is only millimeters.

Wrong. Courtesy of phonearena.com, an excellent phone review website:

Sans Droid Eris, but there's your iPhone debate. And I keep mine in my pocket too. I don't see how a 1.5mm difference is "noticeably thicker" to anybody.

When they released that there was gonna be an app that would start your car, I got 4 PMs and 2 calls in one morning. People really seem to want that shit, even though I think it is gonna suck balls, people are gonna line up to get that.

I wonder how long until the 'droid has a similar app.
