Wow... I figured there would be a lot more pissing and moaning by iphone fanboys.

Good thread. If I get the time I will chime in later about networks, the future LTE and whatnot.

iPhones are fine, but Verizon kind of does their own thing. Even when/if the iPhone comes out for Verizon it will probably be castrated pretty badly in terms of apps. But at the same time, the AT&T network does a good job of making owning any of their phones useless in certain locations.

I don't know shit about phones so the fact that there are multiple "droid" phones that you guys are all referring to as a "droid" is confusing the hell out of me.

Can someone tell me if this is what I want?

I'm on verizon and I'm due for an 2yr upgrade. The phone I'm currently using is over four years old.

        The Motorola one bro!

Most of us who are saying "Droid" are referring strictly to the Motorola one.

Okay, so you have all been talking about a phone thats not available on Verizon even though the thread title clearly mentions Verizon users?

Does anybody have any input on the phone I posted?

picked up an htc droid eris around 2pm today. regular droid felt bulky in comparison, my friends with the motorola droid say they prefer the touch scree keyboard to the physical one, and word has it that the droid eris will come out with a free software upgrade to google 2.0 around the start of the year.

i just signed a contract mid sept as my old phone broke and I needed a new one. Even with 2 months into a 2 year contract, I called, told them I wanted to cancel my contract so I can switch to at&t and get an iphone, they offered me the droid at contract price AND 20% off

Shit there is plenty of people in this thread not reading posts.

And Coldaccord that's sweet as hell that they gave you that killer deal.

I've had an iPhone for a year... both with AT&T and T-Mobile. I switched back to Verizon last weekend. Bar none Verizon has the best service. AT&T is expensive for OK service. T-Mobile is terrible service and a million hidden fees ($450 of them for a month where I never even went over my minutes). So I decided to give up the iPhone.

I played around with the Droid for a bit and it seems like an amazing phone. But I am personally going to stick with my 5 year old Motorola Q and wait for the 4G phones to come out early next year.

I've had a droid for about a week now and love but I've almost never used it as a phone. I retained my old phone and number and out the Droid on a new line with a data plan. This was ultimately the cheapest option because I had a lot of extras on my usual line (navigator, vcast other bullshit) which when removed, added up to around the $30 a month I'm paying for the new line and data plan. My other reasoning for this was for the safety of my Droid and due to it's size. I have a small LG Decoy that fits in the left tool pocket of my Carharts perfectly, gets great service coverage I don't overly mind dropping it in a customer's engine bay. The Droid I would be overly paranoid about so it stays safely in it's little Timbuk2 pouch until I can wash my hands. If I ever find myself not wrenching for a living I could see using it every day but for now my dual setup works perfectly. Plus I have a new number to prank call people from...

And for what it's worth, I MUCH prefer the physical keyboard over the virtual one. My large mechanic fingers are less likely to mistype...

I despise most Apple products, especially the O/S, but a jailbreaked iPhone kicks ass.

The latest unlock/jailbreak came out last week and is so easy, a caveman can do it.
