Five Sept. 11 Suspects to Face Trial in New York

These trials will be flooded with the same bullshit that invades our court systems everyday. Evidence will be thrown out when it is deemed "illegally obtained" and it will end with either the terrorists being deported or sitting in our jails for the rest of their lives while being allowed to freely practice their brand of religion that told them it was ok to destroy 3,000 lives.

you kill them they become martyrs. a fate worse than death for any of those fuckers is life in a federal prison. don't give them the escape of death, let them suffer a lifetime.

I am not a lawyer. There is big problem with trying these terrorists in our justice system.

              1. Burden of proof. Do we have 100% proof that he did it? They have a lot of work to do to show that these guys did it.
              2. Appeals. These terrorists, if proven guilty have the ability to appeal the decision, which in turn will take "YEARS" to go through. These terrorists will not get what they deserve for years and years and years to come. Id says give or take 5-10 more years of court and money that will be spending on this.

Does anyone else think that our justice system will screw this up? I sure do.

Im betting that some nutbag in New York will try to kill them before they even get to or during the trial.

unlikely.. there arn't that many nutbags in NY that'll try and take out federal marshalls. besides, people in nyc which was the epicenter of the attack, have a vested interest in seeing these fuckers on trial. this is the jurisdiction where they attacked us. it seems fitting they should be tried in nyc, just walking distance from ground zero.

They should be at a military tribunal as this was an act fo war! The bad was they did not represent any know gov't.

I was surprised that they decided on NYC vs Alexandria VA. where most trials like this are held.

I have a few issues and some of them are conflicting but bear with me.

The five that are on trial planned or had a hand in the attack on 9-11, which was on us soil. Granted they were apprehended overseas by the military but their crime relates to an attack on domestic soil. They weren't military advisors, spies, and they didn't have official positions in any gov't. They were bandits who recruit uneducated, destitute, mentally vunerable people to carry out their twisted manifest. Sorta like any other criminal organization.

By calling them war criminals, it's essentially emboldening their cause because they are fighting for a purpose and see themselves and are percieved as equal warriors to 'big bad US military'. When you call them criminals and treat them as criminals the aura surrounding them lessens.

With regards to the hijackers, lets say they lived....as foreign nationals, they are subject to the laws of the country they are in. They had visas to be in the country, they would be subject to justice in civilian courts just like 'paco the drug cartel runner/head/dealer/etc'.

The fact that these guys planned the attack that happened on domestic soil, makes them subject to the civilian court system. Case in point, We extradite foreign nationals for crimes committed against US interests, citizens, etc ALL THE TIME and convict them with no problems. Our legal system does have prosecution provisions for these crimes.

The attacks on 9/11 were horrible and were truely a show of pure evilness, however imo we are not at war with terrorists. These criminals will be subject to close to 3000 counts of murder, etc and they will probably get the death penalty. When the trial happens, I hope the prosecution diminishes the 'fantasy' about them, and paints them out be severely twisted criminals over some jihadi.

Ok here is a contradiction, I am surprised at the bravado of AG. Holder and others by stating that they are sure of the outcome, and that the trial location has special meaning to the city, yada yada yada....didn't he essentially give the defense lawyers grounds to motion for a change of venue, mistrial due to prosecutorial misconduct, and a whole slew of other technicalities? It seems as if we are conducting show trials for the world to see, and acting as if it's an accurate portrayal of our 'superior' legal system.
