I bought a Dell laptop about 9 months ago, paid just under 2 grand for one with all the bells and whistles and upgrades, it's now slow, freezes up, and the corner of the case is cracked and falling apart and I hardly use the stupid thing. I wouldn't go with Dell again, but that's just my story.

I forgot to mention that Dell's chargers have a little code chip in them, and if the laptop doesnt pick up the signal from it, it will not charge. And they like to fry, or the wire connected to the plug that goes into the laptop breaks off. I've had 3 chargers go bad. Never again.

Isn't all this "its slow after 6 months" more to do with keeping your computer clear of malware/extra stuff running in the background?

We have a 7 year old dell desktop at home, that still runs just fine.

Id like to say that maybe a handful of you ACTUALLY know what you're talking about from experience.
And then I'd like to say that the rest of you are just regurgitating what you're retarded friends tell you happened to them...

No. This is with clean OS installs, and Linux. I had to step down the CPU to 800mhz to keep it from overheating and shutting itself off. After I cleaned the fan and heatsink, I could leave it at full power, but if I ran too much of a load or didn't keep the fan intake 100% clear of anything and everything it would overheat. I was getting CPU temps of 78 degrees celcius with the vent 100% clear if I ran anything CPU intensive.

If you want a good laptop you look at either makers enterprise line. Both Dell and HP has shitty consumer laptops (with HP edging out dell for total shittiness).

                      one more suggestion
theer are more than one website that rates notebooks
apple is the best if you can live with a mac
its also the fastest windows computer LOL

but i relied on user reviews
and if you do the same you're going to find dell loses

no I have personal experience. For one my uncle works for them, and knows plenty of stories...

But my father bought about a 3k dell laptop that he has had to send back about 3 times now and it still crashes and fails all the time.

One of my best friend's also has a relative working for a dell and bought another top of the line laptop that has spent most of its life back at dell being fixed.

You really know me well huh?

So what you're saying is your buddy's dad's brother's cousin heard something about a problem about a laptop. We're not sure which laptop model though, but probably all of them. Does this sound correct?

3k dollar Dell? Why would they need one of the high end notebooks? What are they doing on that notebook?
Sorry, computers dont just fuck themselves. Serious hardware failures from the factory get noticed pretty quick and Dell support is amongst the best.

While I won't deny that Dell has stellar customer service, their chargers are still bullshit.

Don't get too butt hurt bout the company you work for. It sucks, sorry.

My father bought his laptop for work. He doesn't play games or do anything crazy on it.

And no you didn't read what I wrote, I have seen what happened to my dad's and best friend's computers first hand. As far as my uncle that works for Dell, you are right the problems occur with pretty much their entire line of laptops from the base to the top.

Poorly built computers DO shit themselves. Just like anything that isn't built well...

And Dell support is well, possibly more of a joke than Obama in the white house

Both Dell and HP have internals made by the same manufacturer. It all comes down to how are they put together. And face it - Inspirons are cheap. Mine wokrs great because I maintain it well.

But generally you NEVER EVER buy the cheapest product in range of ANY manufacturer.

If you are looking for a Dell laptop - go for Vostro or XPS - or even better Latitude or Precision.

I would take Dell over HP anyday - and it's not just because of my work.

                                Regards from Dell PM.
