I like johnny walker red. It tastes like the smell of a camp fire. Manly!

My question is, why do people like Glenfiddich so much? It sucks at 12, 15, and 18 years.

[McCallan] Their 12 is good when opened with a splash of water.

In my opinion, Glenlivet 12 is a great benchmark. It does not blunder in any direction. It is restrained, light bodied, with restrained oak notes. It will allow you to properly taste other whiskies. Think of it as a gateway to enjoying other fine malts.
I would agree with that. I thought the Glenfiddich, although good, was a bit sharp and lacked some flavor. The Glenlivet 12 that I just got is very good. I'm Impressed with it. I think they cost about the same, so go with the Glenlivet if there is a choice.

Glenmorangie has some nice stuff too.

Talisker is great if you like a very peaty taste.

On the Irish side, I like Jameson's.

I think I am going to buy myself the Glenlivit Cellar Collection 1983 and open it up on my birthday when we both turn 50

I just bought my dad a bottle of Singleton. Very smooth and not too expensive
If you like blended scotch, Johnny Walker Blue Label is the BEST. But the Black Label is almost as good for about 1/4 the price.

I love Talisker! Has an almost smokey aroma to it. Along the same lines, Oban is pretty good as well.

Walker Black is garbage in comparison to Walker Blue. Walker Black, of course, is only a pubic hair better than garbage. Singleton is an aggressively priced single malt. It's balanced, it's not trying to do much, but it's cheap and it doesn't reek of grain whisky.

Talisker does have a smoky nose and taste to it. Oban is like an asexual man. You aren't sure if he's gay (Speyside) or straight as an arrow (Islay). I like it though.
