    Dumb question thread

Ok, my dad asked my a really dumb question yesterday. His truck is broke so I have to drive him around for a few days. So yesterday when going to get into my E30, he asked my this, "does it have seat belts"? i thought to myself, you cant be serious, cars have had seatbelts sence the 60's in the US, so why would an '87 not have them. i laughed, as it was kinda funny that he would ask such a question.

So the purpose of the thread: what are some of the dumbest questions you have been asked? Or dumb ones you have asked other people?

One of my extremely dumb blonde friends asked me "If you were strong enough, could you like pull yourself up off the ground? Like, make yourself float you know?"

    I cried from laughter.

Will an airplane on a treadmill still take off?

No, because the airplane isnt actually traveling at take off speed, it is going 0MPH, So it will not take off.

                      Yes, it will.

Since the wheels are the ones driving the plane. It's whatever else is propelling it forward(obviously dependent on the type of plane).

                      Mythbusters did this ;)

First of all the wheels on an air plane are not powered. For a plane to take off, air must be flowing around the wings, (generates lift) And for this to happen, the the entire air plane,( fuselage, wings, all of it, traveling as a whole) must be traveling at its take off speed,( powered by engine(s)) which varies between different planes. If you were to place a plane on a treadmill, the wheels may be spinning at take off speed, but the sence the fuselage/wings are not moving, there isnt sufficient airflow flowing around the wings, so no lift is generated. So, a plane placed on a stationary treadmill, will not take off...ever
