    Seattle's "light-rail" no parking policy...

The City of Seattle spent obnoxious amounts of money on this "revolutionary" light-rail public transportation from Sea-Tac (Air Port, for those who are unfamiliar) to Seattle. Really not that far of a commute but, one can see the merits.

In their flagrant display of power, they shoved this light-rail system down it's citizens throats then failed to offer parking for said public transportation system. What the flying-fuck good is a public transportation option, which was marketed as a way of "relieving road and traffic congestion", if you cannot park anywhere near it? This was not merely a stupid oversight, it was PURPOSEFULLy intended to not have parking. Furthermore, the City/State Government turned around and what?, told small businesses, property management companies, private land owners that they where forbidden from offering long term parking near/around any light-rail station/stop. Not only have they refused to make parking for it, City/State have made all street parking permit parking which you have to pay for or, 2 hour maximum parking. A dozen new meter maids will be enforcing these areas.

In conclusion, they not only make you pay for something you don't want, they make you pay to park next too it. Or nearly within 5 miles of it at the very least. This retarded system not only doesn't work... for ANYBODY, it also makes more congestion as it runs through the middle of an already busy, traffic-clogged Rainier Ave.

I hate that I love Washington State.

Anyone else have opinions or strong useless feelings on this subject?

The big catch here is that sure, yeah, it takes money to run. Systems that are built have to be paid for. I get the gist, really. But to what end? There's all of like 11 people average that ride this damn thing. Every purpose or reason to have it is completely void if no one can park and then ride into Seattle. What's the point if no one rides it? Bragging rights? That's one expensive... useless... brainless... idiotic... retarded... bragging right.

never said it was smart. lol

So are you saying that you can park there, you just have to pay? If so, welcome to how every other huge transit system is ran. You would be doing the same thing in chi town if you where there. and it does work really well.

no, he's saying there is no parking, anywhere near the train, and it's basically illegal to set any up.

yet another example of the wasteful washington government. Don't worry seattle, the rest of the state will pay for your stupid rail. Don't worry Governor, we don't know that your budget shortfall doesn't exist, but is really a shortfall on a planned 17% increase in state spending.

Pretty much what he said. State Law Enforcement went to every substantial parking lot/business center and handed them a bunch of paperwork forbidding them from letting people park for any longer than 2-4 hours and in no way can anyone open any form of Pay-To-Park type lot. I'm not 100%, but from what I've heard via the News is that it's a hefty fine if you allow someone to park say, at your house and then ride the train into Seattle. All the while, not only do you have to apparently walk to the damn station, which FYI, is nearly inaccessible unless you drive, you have to pay to ride it on top of paying for it in taxes, bridge tolls, etc etc...

Amen, dude. This mystery deficit Gregoire finds herself in no surprise to anyone that simply pays attention. Get this folks, if the Government spends 4+ billion dollers more than they take in, they end up in the black. Here's a thought, stop spending. Don't just raise taxes. Strangly, I know not ONE single person who is mildly responsible that truly relies on the hundreds of new (since Gregoire) state funded programs.

              Tired of it.

On a positive note I rode the light rail a few months back from south Seattle to west lake center and it was a very pleasant experience. Smooth and didn't have a lot of homeless people like buses do due to increased cost. I didn't have to worry about spending 20+ bucks on a parking garage for the afternoon.

I do say the no parking near the train stations is STUPID. That was its major shortfall. We had to be dropped off and picked up at a strip mall by the station. If I lived close to it and worked downtown I could see walking to the stations a good option to driving tho.

A commuter transport system with no place for the commuters to park.

                        Sounds brilliant.

WTF? Whats the justification behind that?

Is there a large car washing lobby in the Washington gov't?

phosphates in the drain water.. except for most car wash soap I've used is phosphate free. and there's no way a little soap from the few people in this state that actually wash their cars compares to all the oil and coolant that leaks onto the ground from the POS jalopies running around here. People can't afford to fix oil leaks when they're being taxed to death can can't get jobs because the state runs businesses out of town :p
