    Who here DJs?

after seeing the headphone and home stereo threads, i figured id start this thread and see how many of you spin, with some general guidelines

    type of music
    type of DJ (scratch/mix)
    how long
as a hobby or job etc
equipment/setup description (with a pic! gear is expensive, whore that shit!)

i spend my fair share behind the decks, mainly mixing electronic/big beat/house/trance/DnB basically anything that can be classified as an "electric" genre, but i occasionally do house parties and will mainly play hip hop and top 40 (much to my dismay:???:)

dont get me wrong, i love good hip hop, i just HATE crappy rap that most people listen to (see lil wayne )

    i use
    MK2 tech 1200s
    CDJ 200s
    DJM 600
    Behringer Eurolive 12s (for gigs)
    crappy bose cans (upgrading soon)

been at it for about 3 years now, old pic of my equip when i had the abortion of a mixer known as the DJX700 (ignore the levels on the mixer, that thing was so fucked that at times the main level LEDs would just sit full like that )

if youve got the cash to invest in some solid equip then do it up! but take it from me, make sure you research what will work for your situation best and dont chince out on equip, ive had old mixers/players crap out on me in the middle of a set, and that shit SUCKS

started off with a djm-500 and 1200-m3ds back in 2000.

these days i'd rather spend the money on the car, so ableton/traktor with an m-audio x-session. i gig out on whatever they have; as long as it has a jog wheel and a pitch knob it's all the same thing.

conventional techno and d'n'b got kinda stale to me a while back, and thankfully a friend from the east coast turned me on to power noise, which is kind of a free-form genre for ppl who like industrial. some of it sounds like techno, some like trance, some d'n'b, the only real genre rules are it should sound aggressive and distorted.

                  mixes are at http://www.pyramidhead.net/

since i'm a huge electronic music lover, i've always wanted to try mixing. for a while i started collecting records but never got a mixer or some nice decks.

Are there any good places online to shop some equipment?

ps: enjoying the mixes on pyramidhead :)
