"Off topic" but, what would the OP suggest for a TV in say, 40"?

    For 2010 product

our new UN40C7000 would be a good choice:

    LED
    local dimming
    slim design
    3D emitter
    skype on TV
    internet widgets Facebook ect
network and local d"downloaded movie" playing
    240hz /1080p

its a middle of the range LEd that woont break the bank, no idea on the pricing tho.

IT will also be compatable with our touchscreen 2 way remote that comes with the new 9000. you can watch TV on it anywhere int he house, control the TV, use as a KB...ect

its like a standalone smartphone that gets paired to the TV

And because of that we no longer have super cheap DLP's being made except for Mitsu.

The Super Bowl looked awesome on my buddies 82" Mitsu.

I totally agree, before my HPR I had a Pana 62 inch LED DLP. The picture was amazing and it was cheap for the screen size.

The reason DLPs are on the way out is because most consumers want the stylish TVnot the huge picture. And on top of that most DLPs are not what you could call "soilid state" (technically yes but whatever) They have many moving/sensitive parts that are prone to failure.

Unfortunatley from any manufacturer, a TV prob wont last 10-15 years like your last CRT did.

Even if you mount it on the wall its not just going to hang on the wall like a painting. You still have the tuner guts and all of the connections. Most arent just panels so you need room for speakers too.

DLPs were pretty good technology at the time but werent getting cheap fast enough to keep up. I liked them but I also like that I can hang my (still only about 2" thick) LCD TV on the wall. No floor space. But it still doesnt matter if its 2" thick or .2" thick on the panel. Both have the guts and hte mount is going to add at least another inch (or more if its a swivel arm).

I would much rather just spend my money on better picture or sound (as I have).
        Im now E30less.

Agreed. If you do a badass setup with hidden components, or a component tower off in the corner, it makes more sense to me. Then it's easier to properly place the center with the front mains so all the tweeters are at the same height.

The tower off in the corner with a thin panel on the wall and the speakers on the stand in front of it, is probably what I'll do in the next couple years once the DLP bulb burns out.

Its too bad DLP is going away, seems like great picture and great size for cheap! I've had my Samsung DLP (HL-S5687) since fall of 2006 and its never had an issue. I'm still waiting for the bulb to burn out.
