I've tried different settings and got it to work in .wmv to .mpg... so all is good.

This is for a stand alone media player, otherwise of course it wouldn't be an issue (vlc or not).

Jean, even though it seems you have solved your problem you should try this:

I've used it for god knows how many years now, and it basically runs every stinking codec out there. The actual player they use is a windows media player classic. If i'm watching something on the laptop, i dont need to convert any files to other formats. This simply will play whatever format you have. At least i havent found a format that it cant play yet.

Dave, this isn't for a pc based media player (WD). This is for a stand alone "box" that plays almost anything you through at it (mkv included), but for some reason .wmv files are always a problem ;)

Lee, I've had their WD media player (non live, non ethernet version) for about 2 years now, this is how I watch BBCi rips of F1, TopGear etc via hdmi. It works fine, with usb stick or external hdd but sometimes you run into a rip or file that it doesn't like. I am sure the newer versions of it are even better, I will probably upgrade as I like this box. It runs cool, they keep updating it with firmware revisions to support more formats or bug fixes etc. So it's nice to see they came out with a live box as well.

Ohhhh... my mistake. I dont know how i assumed the WD stood for windows. I was actually looking at getting the WD player a while ago and wussed out.

wierd, my friend has what I think is the WD media player, and it rejected the MKV files we tried to copy to it. Maybe he needs a firmware upgrade?
