Does anybody know how Wire transfers work?

My uncle sent me some moolah for my birthday. He's in the UAE right now and says its been sent to a Western Union and gave me a 7 Digit code. When I go on to check it it says it needs a 10 digit code to check the status of the codes.

at any rate, how do these work? Do I just go to the western union, make my claim, then they write me a check?

Go to a western union spot, fill out the international receiving form, wait forever while they process it and collect cash.

i wire money between my accounts (stocks to checking or vice versa, etc). you need your banks routing number and your bank account number.

i have no idea what you are talking about. money being sent by western union is something different.

        Here is how it works:

I send you a wire transfer for $20,000.

You go get $15,000 out of the bank and send it to me.

You collect the $20,000 and you have $5,000.

Neat, huh? What is your address?

Go to a bank or store that processes Western Union. Complete the receive form and give it to the cashier along with your ID. They should be able to look up the name of the recipient or have them call Western Union customer service to assist with processing your request. Sending a Western Union money transfer should happen instantly. If they do not process it, tell them they will be receiving BeElzebub's wrath!
