Light, slow, big winged aircraft are best for that.
There was an ugly kit built thing at my local airport, only 100hp take off roll was 23 feet, we measured it out. It topped out at about 100mph but you could land and take off on a fucking postage stamp.
I would not fly in that LS powered thing, auto engine conversions have the worst reliability record in aircraft. It's not normally the motor that is so poor, it's the gear reduction drive needed to get the HP out of them with a reasonably low prop RPM.
