    Opinions on a 88' Supra?

Thinking about picking up a minty CA supra n/a, 5spd, for a DD, only has 34k on it. its all original, stock, and collector owned. Whats the typical down falls of this model? and info i should know about with these?

    what's r3v's opinion on the 88' supra?

not for sure set on it yet, but i want another cheap DD for when i go back to school in august. have around 5000$ give or take to play with. what do you guys recomend?

If you have 5k to spend, why not get something a lot newer?

I like it. If I had room, I would buy one to play with.

Nothing special about a non turbo Supra in my opinion, I'd rather spend my 5k somewhere else. You could get something newer or cooler for the same money.

Get a front engined porsche. '87 or '88 924S is a highly underrated car and can be found in really good shape for less than 5K. The 924S of that era literally had the same engine as the 944 and was faster. It's a porsche so it has a definite coolness factor.

My dad had one. I asked him about it and he said he really liked it. He had the turbo version. It was more of a rocket ship than anything he'd driven, really fast in a straight line, not as good at handling.

maintenance costs would be sky high though...

Well if you were looking for something along the lines of the Supra then I would say look for a turbo Supra or turbo RX7. Rereading your post you say that you want a cheap DD so in that respect, I wouldn't look for anything like these cars for that. Are you set on RWD? Do you want low maintenance? For a quick but low maintenance car that you want to DD in that price range, I would be looking for a Honda Prelude or maybe a Celica. For 5k, you could get a pretty well sorted E30, possibly swapped, to DD also.

I would go for an Integra, they have pretty amazing handling for a fwd car. As long as you find one that wasn't owned by someone that shops from the JC Whitney catalog it would probably be a reliable car.
