Don't buy a truck if you don't haul things.
And don't considering hauling things less than 5 days out of the year as grounds to say you haul things.
Get a sedan or something, something simple, reliable, comfortable, and safe.
Like a Volvo 850 or S70.
Fairly simple, pretty safe, pretty reliable and comfortable. Decent aftermarket support if you want to make it faster (buy a turbo model from the get-go).
Best part too is you get to go from being "the guy doing highway pulls in the turbo car" to being "the guy minding his own business in the Volvo". They're practically invisible to cops and most normal people too, up until you come screaming up past them on the highway.-Mike

Plus they are slow, handle like shit, ride like shit... Unless you NEED a truck, they are only fun for about a day.
Buy a 525i Touring and call it a day.

DON'T BUY A TRUCK UNLESS YOU WILL BE USING IT EVERY DAY, OR AT LEAST VERY FREQUENTLY. I don't think I can emphasize this enough. They are typically terrible to drive (generally the throttle and steering feel pretty disconnected or vauge), they don't get good mileage, and while some can be comfortable, the space they take up is excessive for a daily driver. If you need to use a truck, go rent one for the day from u-haul. Your wallet will thank you. You'll save money on gas and get to keep your sanity.
Seriously -- If you haul stuff frequently, get a truck. If you haul stuff every now and then, get a station wagon. If you rarely haul stuff at all, get some small little econobox hatch or sedan and just drive that around.
Wagons are great -- more storage room than their sedan counterparts, but they typically don't weigh much more or drive any differently, meaning you can still have a car with great cargo capacity that will get 30+mpg.-Mike

Besides, why would you drive a truck every day if you hardly actually hauled things? DDing trucks makes no sense to me unless you're a construction worker or somesuch and actually utilize it's potential.-Mike

20mpg or less = shitty.
For instance, I average ~20 in my Volvo, and that's shitty.
generally I see it as:
20 or less = shit
20-25 = eh
25-30 = alright
30-35 = good
35+ = great-Mike

The logic about trucks in this thread makes me want to . So i agree with Danny . As an S10 owner past and present. They are fine trucks. Never owned a Ranger, but my Ford buddys dont really complain about them. Although they are die hard Ford people.... And for gas mileage, you got to look at the overall picture. Like e30e, that's pretty good for what they are. I'm getting that out of my 97 Blazer 4x4 now with mixed driving.

Well if you have 5k and you're not gonna buy an e30 or any other 80's bmw (which would be be gay if you didnt) I'd go with a volvo, like a 240 or if you're lucky enough to find one, a 242.. that's my opinion.sigpic

I wouldn't DD a 242, simply because they're getting harder to find.
244 or 245 though, sure (granted, I actually do DD a 245, so, yeah)-Mike
