yeah, ESQ is by Movado, what's wrong with that, besides cost(s)? I believe it could be found for just above $200 now. That's if it's still out there somewhere online. Forgot about the automatic criteria...

I've got a couple of quick questions for the watch guys. I haven't owned a nice watch in four years now and I've been looking to get back into one. I'm in love with the Oris watches. I'm going to an Oris retailer on Saturday, but first I was wondering if there are any safe websites/forums to buy a used Oris? I've already checked out Friends of Oris and watchuseek. Also, while on Friends of Oris, I came across something that I've run into a few other times. Somebody was selling a Panerai Marina for $300. He clearly stated that it had Asian movement. Did Panerai offer a cheaper line of watches, or are these people buying broken Panerai's and replacing the movement pieces with cheaper Asian parts. This is the kind of stuff that would keep me from buying a used watch. It seems that somebody could have the original papers and box to verify that it's real, but you wouldn't really know unless you had it opened.

              ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Homage watch from tommy at trusty time. Pan dose not make any thing of that sort.

They are good watches some even with eta movements in them or good asian movements. They are just expensive enough to be a good watch in a lux watch knock off case, and they are good knock offs too. Unless you know precisely what you are looking for you will be hard pressed to tell the diff they are that good (but if they have a display back and you have genuine watch to compare to it can get obvious fast). I have had a couple from tommy over the years a while back and they are very decent.

damn, I've considered buying a replica Santos for a long while now!

Quick history lesson for you guys... Brasilian, Santos Dumont, first to fly heavier-than-air, not the Wright Brothers, mentioned the difficulty he had checking his time while operating his driveable airships to his good friend Louis Cartier. The result; the first wristwatch designed for men, the Cartier Santos.

Sleeve, I find myself not wearing my watch as much as i used to because ive been wrenching a lot lately. How hard it it on them to sit. that is, are the winders really benificial to a chrono?

Blunt I assume you have a ture speedy pro AKA the moon watch IE hand wind watch not an auto movement like the day/date, Broad arrow, or moon phase, tipple calender, or any of the "reduced" (smaller) models ????????? If you have the real hand wind it should have the 1861 cal. movement in it or if a bit older a 321 cal.

Those are hand wound only there is no self winding mechanisms in them so a winder would do you no good at all. If you have one of the other versions that have a auto movement in it would be help full. Just when you get up in the am just wind it like you always do if your gonna wear it for the day and set it back down on the dresser thats what I do with MY huge ass XXL rail master.

Sitting unwound wont hurt them too much, it when they sit for very very long periods unwound is when you MAY and I stress MAY run into issues as the main spring along with all the other springs in them get used to being in that position and lose their ability to hold tension consistently. Think of it like a car suspension when you let it sit for 10 years it loses its elasticity from lack of use rather than over use. If you are only leaving it unwound for a few days, weeks or even months it should not be any issue for you. You may be able to leave it sit for years, and wind it up and still be as good as it was the last time you wore it. If you do have any autos a cheapo winder that you can put 4 watches in will set you back as little 60 bucks and that way you dont have to worry about it and you dont have to set them when you feel like wearing them.

Let me know what you have and I will find what movement you have in it.

no this is a self winding movement. Im not sure as i dont know nearly as much as you do. Its about 10 years old and a chrono auto movement. Ill take a pic of it later but its in the garage as I pulled my motor yesterday and left it out there
